Drawing upon more than three decades of professional experience, Ms. Tiedrich is well-regarded for her pioneering work in artificial intelligence (AI), data and emerging technologies. To wit, she has aided in the advancement of technological revolutions at the intersection of technology, law and policy. Holding several appointments, she currently serves as an AI expert with the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) and OECD and a co-chairperson of GPAI's Intellectual Property Advisory Committee and GPAI's Responsible AI Strategy for the Environment (RAISE) Committee. Her recent endeavors focus on responsibly unlocking AI data and model sharing to advocate for enhancing equity, inclusion and social fairness.
Notably, Ms. Tiedrich is a highly sought-after speaker and advisor for her expertise in shaping responsible technology, having tackled data scraping, AI governance and related critical issues as laws seek to draw closer to burgeoning technology. Alongside her work at GPAI and OECD, she holds three appointments at Duke University, including as a distinguished faculty fellow in law and responsible technology, an executive-in-residence and a responsible technology scholar in AI health. Through her prestigious appointments, Ms. Tiedrich has designed and taught innovative, multidisciplinary courses to graduate students to introduce them to real-world technologies in collaboration with such organizations as OECD, Thomson Reuters, Northrop Grumman and Truveta, among others.
Leveraging more than 30 years of legal experience and a college degree in electrical engineering, Ms. Tiedrich previously served as a partner at the global law firm Covington & Burling LLP, where she impressively led the firm's global and multidisciplinary AI initiatives. Moreover, she was responsible for counseling organizations on a vast array of matters, such as corporate policy, intellectual property and governance. She has also held executive-level roles with the American Bar Association, was a peer reviewer for Oxford University Press, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal for AI Regulation. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Emphasizing that harnessing the power of emerging technologies can help address climate change, improve health care outcomes and aid sustainable development goals, Ms. Tiedrich aims to continue seeking solutions to critical issues.
EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS
Ms. Tiedrich graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1988, one of the few women to do so in that graduating year. She subsequently received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Carey Law School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1991.
AWARD HIGHLIGHTS
Ms. Tiedrich earned the Women Innovators Award from Duke University in 2023, highlighting her role as a trailblazer in the technology sector, which has historically been a male-dominated field. In addition, she was the 22nd woman elected to the Covington partnership at Covington & Burling LLP, where she was also appointed the founding chair of the firm's Women's Forum and later co-chaired the firm's Diversity Committee. In 2024, she was named among the 10 Most Visionary Women in AI Creating a Global Impact by CIO Business World.
