NORTH PALM BEACH, FL, June 23, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Graciela C. Catasús, MPA, BA, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Catasús has built a distinguished career defined by public service, leadership and authorship. In 2021, she authored "The Revolution That Wasn't," a book inspired by her personal observations of the dynamics during the imminent Fidel Castro communist takeover in Cuba, largely aided by the U.S. press and government, and later corroborated by her historical research. Drawing on her childhood observations and research, she critically examined the miscommunication and misleading news reports that shaped public perception of Castro, both in Cuba and internationally. Her work highlighted how media outlets such as The New York Times and Cuban publications distorted reality, as well as the United States government's complex involvement during this pivotal period. The book has garnered significant attention, with one organization expressing interest in adapting it for film and another selecting it for presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany.
Ms. Catasús dedicated more than two decades to Miami-Dade County, Florida, retiring in 2007 after a notable tenure that began in 1983. Her entry into county administration was facilitated by a fellowship funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase Hispanic representation in government roles. This opportunity allowed her to start as an intern and steadily advance through various administrative positions.
From 2000 to 2007, Ms. Catasús served as an administrative and compliance officer in the Office of Quality Assurance and Compliance, overseeing multiple programs and initiatives. During this period, she also served as an assistant and executive assistant to the director of the Office of Communications. From 1990 to 1996, she served as a program planner in the Office of Substance Abuse Control. Earlier in her career, Ms. Catasús was a community planner in the Department of Justice Assistance from 1988 to 1990.
Ms. Catasús began her career in 1984 as a public information and education officer, remaining in the role for four years. During this period, she was instrumental in launching public safety campaigns, including the Buckle-Up campaign and DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), which addressed substance abuse prevention and drunk driving. Other roles to her credit included serving as an analyst and management intern in the Office of Productivity from 1983 to 1984 and as an administrative assistant at Southeast Bank N.A. from 1981 to 1982.
Ms. Catasús's educational background laid a strong foundation for her accomplishments. She earned a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University in 1984, supported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She also completed a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and psychology at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, graduating with Dean's List honors in 1977. Her academic pursuits were driven by curiosity about cultural dynamics, particularly why Cubans abandoned their nation's progressive constitution. These themes have informed both her professional work and her literary output.
Throughout her professional career, Ms. Catasús has received several honors, including an Excellence Award from the National Association of County Information Officers in 1986. She was appointed chair of the City of Miami Beach's Mayor's Hispanic Parity Task Force in 1992 and of the Bureau of Children's Affairs in 1991. She also earned a Community Service Award from Florida International University in 1983 and was recognized in South Florida Magazine's "Up and Comers" issue in 1986.
In addition, Ms. Catasús is affiliated with several professional organizations that reflect her commitment to leadership development and effective communication. She was a member of the Leadership Fellowship at the National Hispana Leadership Institute in 1990 and has since dedicated her efforts to condominium associations and civic advocacy, including the Imperial House Condominium Association Board, Secure Condominium Owners Rights Now (SCORN), the Coalition of Hispanic Advocates for Miami Beach, and the Cuban American Democratic Coalition. She has also been affiliated with the Cuban American Democratic Association, the League of Women Voters, and Hispanics for Better Representation, among many other initiatives.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Ms. Catasús witnessed firsthand the upheaval caused by political change in Cuba before immigrating to the United States with her family. Her father's transition from second-in-command of the Cuban Air Force to rebuilding his life as a mechanic profoundly shaped her perspective on resilience and adaptation. Since beginning her career in the United States, Ms. Catasús has demonstrated civic engagement through volunteer service with the City of Miami Beach and participation in Latin American conferences.
In retirement, Ms. Catasús has continued to pursue creative projects, including writing and property renovation, while staying engaged with community causes. She enjoys spending time with dogs and remains committed to making a positive impact on society through education – a goal that has guided her since childhood. Passionate about truth-telling and driven by nonconformity, she continues to seek ways to benefit humanity through her advocacy work. She encourages others to be down-to-earth, both personally and professionally, and to resist materialism.
