HARROGATE, TN, June 25, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gregory Wayne Cox, DO, is a general surgeon with clinical interests in minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted general surgery, endoscopy (including EGD and colonoscopy), and rural surgical care. He has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected based on current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are considered during the selection process.

Dr. Cox has built a distinguished career spanning medicine, military service, education and entrepreneurship. An assistant professor of surgery, Army Major and business owner, he has dedicated his life to service, leadership and expanding opportunities for others. His journey from a modest upbringing to becoming a physician, educator and military officer reflects a steadfast commitment to personal growth, professional excellence and community impact.

Since 2024, Dr. Cox has served as an assistant professor of surgery at Lincoln Memorial University's DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he educates and mentors future physicians. Drawing upon both his clinical expertise and personal experiences, he is committed to helping students develop the knowledge, skills and professional values necessary for successful careers in medicine. After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the institution, he returned as a faculty member, where he now helps train the next generation of physicians. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, where he teaches residents in rural general surgery.

In addition to his academic appointments, Dr. Cox has served as a general surgeon with Preferred Surgical Associates since 2024. Despite opportunities to practice in larger metropolitan markets, he chose to build his career in a rural community, believing that patients should not have to travel long distances to access advanced surgical care. As a private practice surgeon, he provides surgical care to patients in Middlesboro, Kentucky, and Tazewell, Tennessee, serving the Cumberland Gap region.

In 2025, early in his tenure in the region, Dr. Cox performed the first robotic-assisted colon resection in the Cumberland Gap region at ARH Middlesboro, the only hospital in the region utilizing robotic-assisted surgical technology at the time. This milestone helped bring advanced minimally invasive surgical care to patients throughout the tri-state area of Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia. His work reflects years of rigorous education, advanced training and a deep commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Cox has built a distinguished record of military service through the Tennessee Army National Guard. He accepted a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant in 2014 and was promoted to Captain in 2018 while serving as a Field Surgeon responsible for providing critical medical support to service members. He currently holds the rank of Major. His ability to balance military service with the demanding path to becoming a surgeon reflects the discipline, resilience and dedication that have become hallmarks of his career.

Dr. Cox's commitment to leadership extends beyond medicine and military service. As the founder of EvenTrix Entertainment, he has pursued entrepreneurial interests while maintaining a demanding professional schedule. Through his business endeavors, he has sought to create opportunities for community engagement while demonstrating that leadership and innovation can extend beyond traditional professional boundaries.

While his professional accomplishments are significant, Dr. Cox considers his greatest achievement to be overcoming the circumstances into which he was born. A first-generation college student and the oldest of five children, he was raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly to support her family despite significant financial hardship. He also witnessed firsthand the effects of addiction and incarceration through his father's long struggle with substance abuse and prolonged absence from his life.

Rather than allowing those circumstances to define his future, Dr. Cox used them as motivation. Through education, faith, athletics, military service and relentless hard work, he steadily created opportunities that had not previously existed within his family. His story reflects a deeply held belief that while circumstances may influence where a person begins, they do not determine what a person can achieve.

Dr. Cox's educational accomplishments provided the foundation for his professional success. He completed a residency in general surgery at Garnet Health in 2024 after earning a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University's DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. He previously earned a Master of Science in anatomical sciences from Lincoln Memorial University in 2014 and a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Berea College in 2013. His time at Berea College, an institution dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for students of limited financial means, reinforced the values of hard work, service and perseverance that continue to guide his life and career.

Reflecting on his success, Dr. Cox credits much of his development to the lessons learned through education, faith, athletics and personal responsibility. A three-sport athlete in high school, he competed in football, wrestling and track and field, qualifying for the state wrestling tournament during both his junior and senior years. He later continued his athletic pursuits in college and competed nationally in diving during his senior year. The discipline, resilience and competitive drive cultivated through athletics became instrumental in helping him navigate the challenges of military service, medical school and surgical training.

Throughout his career, Dr. Cox has earned recognition for his dedication to patient care, education and leadership. His honors include the Resident Teacher of the Year Award from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine at Touro University in Middletown in 2024, Resident of the Month at Garnet Health in 2022, and the Above and Beyond Award from Garnet Health in 2019 and 2021. He was also selected for Lincoln Memorial University's 40 Under Forty Class of 2026, recognizing his professional accomplishments, leadership and service.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Cox enjoys flying as a private pilot, a credential he earned during medical school and residency. He has also made two television appearances as an actor and previously performed as part of a hip-hop group that completed a fundraising tour supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Looking toward the future, he hopes to establish a camp for underprivileged children that combines mentorship, athletics and practical life-skills training. Through this initiative, he aims to expose young people to opportunities they may not otherwise encounter while fostering confidence, self-sufficiency and long-term success.

Through his work as a surgeon, educator, military officer, entrepreneur and mentor, Dr. Cox has dedicated his life to service and leadership. More than any title or professional accomplishment, he hopes his legacy will demonstrate that adversity does not define a person's future. His life and career demonstrate that determination, discipline and a willingness to pursue ambitious goals can open doors far beyond the circumstances into which a person is born.

As Dr. Cox says, "Be Limitless."
