As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Highly regarded for her work in running an addiction consult service and developing referral programs that provide access to care for vulnerable populations, Ms. Farinpour has led an exemplary career in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment and clinical leadership at Cottage Health, where she has served with distinction for nearly two decades. Since 2021, she has been the Director of Clinical Care for the Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine department, overseeing clinical staff on the inpatient acute psychiatry unit, the substance use disorder residential treatment program, the intensive outpatient program and running the addiction consult service to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Ms. Farinpour's leadership has been crucial in advancing several hospital-wide initiatives at Cottage Health. Over the past five years, she led a comprehensive assessment using Cal Hospital Compare, resulting in the hospital's inclusion on the Opioid Honor Roll for outstanding opioid management practices in 2025.
Additionally, Ms. Farinpour played a key role in securing funding for the first shipment of 11,000 doses of naloxone (Narcan) through a grant she authored. The addiction consultation service staff continue to manage this grant annually, ensuring that Narcan remains available free of charge to anyone who requests it — a testament to her fierce commitment to harm reduction and community well-being.
Ms. Farinpour began her tenure at Cottage Health in 2007, when she joined as a clinical counselor and was responsible for admissions, assessments and enhancing treatment planning processes. She advanced to become the lead psychiatric case manager for 15 years and was concurrently a therapeutic services manager from 2010 to 2017. Throughout every stage of her journey, she has demonstrated her expertise in managing complex cases involving mental illness and substance use disorders, connecting with patients and developing innovative referral programs while leading multidisciplinary teams.
In addition to her work at Cottage Health, Ms. Farinpour maintained a private practice from 2007 to 2010 and again from 2015 to 2018, providing direct care to individuals and families navigating mental health challenges, couples therapy and gender transition. She further honed her clinical skills as a marriage and family therapist intern at Interventional Psychiatry Associates in Santa Barbara, California, from 2008 to 2011.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Farinpour contributed as a supervisor from 2002 to 2008 and as a hotline supervisor at Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center (now Standing Together to End Sexual Assault) from 2004 to 2007. These formative experiences deepened her commitment to supporting survivors of trauma and violence.
Ms. Farinpour's scholastic background includes teaching positions at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she was also enrolled in a doctoral program that focused on survivors of domestic violence. Her research interests were shaped by her experiences as a woman of color in academia, which inspired her transition into clinical psychology. She also taught preschool during her undergraduate studies, further demonstrating her dedication to education and early intervention.
Alongside her primary roles, Ms. Farinpour is affiliated with the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists as well as the Association of Ambulatory Behavioral Health. To augment her professional qualifications, she is certified as a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and in organizational leadership by Health Professionals Institute. She also holds formal credentials in rape crisis counseling as well as domestic violence solutions.
Hailing from an equally impressive academic background, Ms. Farinpour completed coursework toward a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California (UC), Santa Barbara and earned a Master of Business Administration in health care administration and management from Western Governors University in 2019. Earlier, she obtained a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from Antioch University in 2008; a Master of Arts in physical and biological anthropology from UC Santa Barbara in 2006, and a Bachelor of Arts in physical and biological anthropology in 2003.
Reflecting on her storied journey to date, Ms. Farinpour attributes her success to an unwavering passion for her work within a field marked by significant challenges such as suicide and overdose but also profound opportunities to connect with patients over time. She finds deep fulfillment in witnessing her patients grow through repeated interactions, including receiving gratitude from residents who have successfully completed substance use disorder programs.
Beyond her integral professional responsibilities, Ms. Farinpour is also known for her civic-minded contributions as vice president of Domestic Violence Solutions. Born in Santa Barbara at the very hospital where she now works, she enjoys avid backyard gardening, baking and making moon cookies as a balance to her vocational endeavors.
Looking toward the future with determination, Ms. Farinpour is actively engaged with department leadership at Cottage Health to implement an integrated behavioral health model that connects behavioral health with primary care, cardiology and other specialties where individuals with mental illness or substance use disorders frequently seek treatment. She emphasizes the importance of making mental health and substance use disorder treatment standard components of medical care across disciplines.
Throughout her life and career, Ms. Farinpour has demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing behavioral health services while fostering meaningful relationships within her community — qualities that define her legacy within the field as she continues to serve individuals and families in need of assistance and compassion.
