KNOXVILLE, TN, July 09, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philip E. Moor has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Moor's distinguished career in engineering and instrumentation is marked by more than four decades of technical leadership, innovation and service. His most recent role as department head at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee — part of the United States Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration — from 1984 to 2005 placed him at the forefront of nuclear facility engineering. In his capacity, he oversaw the production of engineering drawings by staff, supervised computer-automated systems programs and ensured that all projects operated correctly and were completed on schedule.

Coordinating closely with both production operations and plant security, Mr. Moor confirmed that all process equipment functioned properly. As department head, he was also responsible for signing all engineering documents related to instrumentation systems, a testament to his longstanding expertise and trustworthiness.

Prior to becoming department head, Mr. Moor served as section head at Y-12 from 1981 to 1984, managing teams responsible for critical plant operations and contributing to the modernization of facility systems. His earlier tenure as a staff engineer from 1973 to 1981 provided him with valuable hands-on experience in system design and implementation, laying much of the groundwork for his later leadership roles.

As a field engineer with Leeds & Northrup in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 1963 to 1973, Mr. Moor traveled extensively to install control systems across the United States. One of the highlights of his career occurred during the construction of Disney World in Orlando, Florida; he was present on opening day and played a pivotal role in installing and operationalizing the computer controls that managed electric power distribution throughout the park. Furthermore, he was responsible for installing, interconnecting, testing and bringing into service equipment that ensured reliable power for lighting and air conditioning across the facility.

Mr. Moor began his professional journey as an engineering intern at Marshall Space Flight Center with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Huntsville, Alabama, during the summers of 1962 and 1963. This formative experience allowed him to work alongside pioneering engineers such as Dr. Wernher von Braun and observe rocket firings firsthand, contributing further to his knowledge and education.

Throughout his multifaceted career, Mr. Moor was recognized for outstanding leadership and technical acumen with two achievement awards from Y-12 National Security Complex: one in 1993 for developing two large computer systems valued at approximately $8 million that communicated with 194 terminals throughout the plant, and another in 1986 for overseeing a multi-year project to replace the plant security system monitoring intrusion detectors and closed-circuit cameras. In both cases, his innovative solutions resolved complex challenges and ensured successful project outcomes.

Additionally, Mr. Moor was presented with the Cates Award for Excellence in Documentation of Chapter Activities from the Instrument Society of America (now the International Society of Automation) in the mid-1980s for maintaining exemplary records as an officer of the Oak Ridge chapter.

Mr. Moor's educational background includes a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, with honor, from Auburn University, earned in 1966. His scholastic achievements began even earlier when he graduated as valedictorian from his hometown high school in Boaz, Alabama — a distinction that led to an award from Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association International and his subsequent internship at Marshall Space Flight Center. To augment his qualifications, he was licensed as a professional engineer by the State of Tennessee from 1977 to 2005.

Also known for his longstanding commitment to civic engagement, Mr. Moor has served as both Ruling Elder and recording secretary at his local Presbyterian church for more than 15 years, managing official business meeting documentation and maintaining church facilities and computer systems through volunteer service.

Reflecting on his storied journey to date, Mr. Moor attributes his success to his faith, the strong work ethic instilled in him by his parents and early mentorship from model colleagues. He also credits his wife, Anne, for her unwavering encouragement and support throughout their marriage since 1970 — a partnership that enabled him to balance his demanding professional responsibilities with being a husband and father.

Outside of his work and civic contributions, Mr. Moor has remained committed to family values throughout his life. He has lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, since 1973 — just 15 miles from his workplace — which has allowed him to be present for his two children and three grandchildren, including an adopted grandson from China.

Now relishing the joys of retirement, Mr. Moor cherishes spending time with his grandchildren and enjoys playing classical piano. Alongside his ongoing efforts in maintaining computer systems at home and church, he intends to continue expanding his piano repertoire and serving at his church as long as possible so that others may benefit from his skills and dedication.

Mr. Moor's life and legacy are defined by technical mastery, steadfast leadership and enduring service to both his profession and community, reflecting a lifetime devoted to integrity and improving the lives of others.
