EAST FALLOWFIELD, PA, July 15, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard A. Vermeil has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Vermeil has distinguished himself as a partner at Vermeil Wines since 2008, where he organizes special events such as wine dinners at country clubs to promote wine sales and recruit members for the wine club. He is also actively involved in the harvest season in California, operating a tractor and contributing to the hands-on aspects of the business. The venture, which began as a hobby among friends, first bottled wine in 1999 at OnTheEdge Winery in St. Helena before officially launching in 2008. Although Mr. Vermeil does not serve as a winemaker or own a vineyard or winery, his name remains closely associated with the company due to its origins and his family's historical connection to the land, which was once owned by his great-grandfather and is now held by the Frediani family.

Before his work in the wine industry, Mr. Vermeil spent 15 years as a head coach in the National Football League (NFL) and 4 years as an assistant coach, during which time he achieved one of his most significant professional milestones by leading a team to victory in Super Bowl XXIX. During his tenure in the NFL, he was the head coach for three franchises, including the Philadelphia Eagles, St Louis Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to entering the NFL, Mr. Vermeil coached his UCLA team to a Rose Bowl Championship in 1976, upsetting the then-number-one-rated team in the country, Ohio State.

Before ascending to the highest ranks of professional football, Mr. Vermeil served for four years as an assistant coach at Stanford University in Stanford, California, where he contributed to the development of collegiate athletes and honed his coaching philosophy. His earlier career included roles at the high school level, followed by coaching at the junior college level, first as an assistant coach and subsequently as a head coach, during which he continued to build on his reputation for leadership and mentorship. Additionally, Mr. Vermeil was a television broadcaster for CBS and ABC for 15 years, presenting NFL and Division I collegiate football beginning in 1982.

Mr. Vermeil began his coaching journey in 1959 at the high school level after earning his master's degree. He initially served as an assistant football coach and head track coach before advancing to head football coach the following year. Over 35 years, he coached at every level, developing enduring relationships that he considers the highlight of his career.

Highly educated, Mr. Vermeil earned a master's degree in education and a general secondary credential from San José State University in San Jose, California, in 1959. In addition to his professional pursuits, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement and philanthropy. Mr. Vermeil is best known as the founder of the Amy Vermeil Foundation at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and has also volunteered with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia, the Boy Scouts of Chester County, the Mary Campbell Center in Delaware, the Bournelyf Special Camp, and the Ronald McDonald House.

Mr. Vermeil has participated in public speaking engagements all over the USA, specializing in his favorite topic, "Seven Common Sense Principles of Leadership."

In recognition of his NFL achievements, Mr. Vermeil was named NFL Coach of the Year twice and NFC Coach of the Year three times. He has earned the title of Coach of the Year on the high school, junior college, collegiate, and professional levels. Mr. Vermeil is also recognized as the only head coach to have won both the Rose Bowl and the Super Bowl.

Crediting his continuous drive for improvement and refusal to be satisfied with past performance as key factors in his success across multiple fields, Mr. Vermeil's contributions have been recognized with several honors. Among them, he received department honors from the physical education department at San José State University and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022.
