PORTOLA VALLEY, CA, July 10, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Arthur Jonath, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Jonath has established a distinguished career marked by innovation, leadership and a commitment to advancing scientific and economic understanding. For the past 18 years, he has served as the principal and founder of Profit and Entropy, a non-profit organization with goals to determine the root causes of economic instabilities, and to improve prediction models. Here, his notable achievements include: developing an economic theory based on analogy of heat flow in physics to cash flow in economics that incorporates both subjectivity and objectivity humans bring into transactions; co-developing a new cyclic cash flow model that contains the effects of profit allocations chosen by producers and wealth managers; inventing a Non-Value-Added Tax system that can reduce the income/wealth gaps by rewarding corporate profit-making accompanied by generating added value to society, while discouraging that which does not; developing a new economic index to monitor the effects of fiscal and monetary actions and to predict leading indicators; and co-developing measures to reduce high-frequency trading-induced market volatility.
Before focusing on economics, Dr. Jonath formed a root cause consultancy, Arthur Jonath & Associates, that provided grand-scale problem solving, technical, and management services to a broad range of clients, from start-up to Global 500 pharma, electronics, and instrument companies. He served on boards of directors, as CEO, CFO, COO, and on advisory boards for several start-ups.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Jonath performed R&D on a wide variety of technologies in the aerospace industry and in 1984 co-founded the semi-conductor company Visic, Inc. — a Silicon Valley company that specialized in advanced memory devices. From 1986 to 1991, he served as vice president of VLSI Technology Inc. after it acquired Visic. There he increased the scope of reliability and quality investigations, allowing VLSI to expand its business with Tier One OEMs.
This entrepreneurial spirit emerged from his pioneering work in the material science laboratory at Lockheed Missiles and Space Co, Inc. At LMSC, he contributed to multiple programs central to national defense. These ranged from designing the micro-thrust engine to keep the first communications satellite in its geosynchronous orbit, to discovering the root cause of 2nd stage failures plaguing the Trident ballistic missile system. That system was the key component for maintaining the United States' strategic nuclear deterrence with the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Dr. Jonath's professional influence extends to advisory roles with industry and educational organizations including service on the Materials Science and Engineering Advisory Board at Stanford University, supporting academic excellence and research innovation.
Dr. Jonath's own academic foundation includes a Doctor of Philosophy in materials science and engineering from Stanford University in 1973. He previously completed both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Beyond his education, he attributes his success to a willingness to engage with others—a quality that led him to leadership positions such as manager, director, vice president or chief executive officer within various organizations. He values openness to differences and recognizes the uniqueness of each individual.
Dr. Jonath's early life experiences shaped his approach to invention and creativity. Growing up in Danvers, Massachusetts with highly creative parents and inquisitive siblings, he learned the importance of listening, rather than yielding to biases to solve problems. This perspective fostered curiosity and resilience that have defined his career.
