Dr. Lund currently serves as the chief executive officer of Richard Lund, where he is embarking on a new chapter in the book publishing industry. Having made significant contributions as an author so far, he published his autobiography, "Dickie's a Bastard," which chronicles his life beginning with his early years in an orphanage during the Depression era after his mother placed him there due to hardship. The narrative details Dr. Lund's eventual reunion with his mother following her remarriage and explores formative experiences with his half-sister Pat. The book provides insight into personal challenges and resilience that have defined his character throughout his life. He is also the author of "A Return to Sender/AWS," a military thriller, further establishing himself within the literary field.
Although his tenure in this role began recently, Dr. Lund's professional journey is distinguished by decades of service and leadership across military and civilian sectors. Before launching Richard Lund, he dedicated 30 years to the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2006. Before joining the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Lund served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy. His naval career encompassed a variety of roles aboard three ships, including work on submarines and in intelligence. Early in his service, he was assigned to a submarine tender as a draftsman, where he collaborated with machinists and pattern makers to repair critical components, such as a broken bell crank on a submarine, ensuring its swift return to active duty. Dr. Lund later joined the USS Saratoga (CVA-60) during the Vietnam War, where he faced significant challenges, including managing operations after a substantial portion of the engine crew went absent without leave prior to deployment.
Dr. Lund's academic achievements have played a pivotal role in shaping his multifaceted career. After completing his military service, he utilized the GI Bill to pursue higher education, earning an associate degree, a bachelor's degree, a master's degree and ultimately a doctorate. The knowledge and skills acquired through these academic pursuits provided Dr. Lund with the foundation necessary for success in both military leadership and his subsequent ventures.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Lund is an active member of the Elk Club, reflecting his enduring commitment to community engagement and camaraderie among peers who share similar interests. Born in Philadelphia, he has always maintained a deep appreciation for the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing, pastimes that continue to bring him fulfillment. In his free time, Dr. Lund also advocates for increased vocational training within educational systems, emphasizing its importance as demand grows for skilled trades, such as craftsmen, plumbers and electricians, especially as artificial intelligence transforms clerical professions.
Among Dr. Lund's most cherished professional milestones was his involvement in John Glenn's first flight. Dr. Lund operated aircraft in the abort area during both launch and landing phases, earning a Letter of Appreciation for his vital support.
