TULSA, OK, July 30, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Peter Patrick Aran, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Aran celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Over the course of a distinguished 45-year career in medicine and healthcare leadership, Dr. Aran demonstrated a steadfast commitment to patient care, education and system-wide improvement before retiring from the field. Most recently, from 2018 to 2021, he served as the associate dean for clinical affairs and chief medical officer at the school of community medicine at the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Schusterman Center. In this capacity, Dr. Aran oversaw clinical operations and played a pivotal role in shaping the institution's approach to medical education and patient care. His tenure was marked by an emphasis on integrating wellness into the curriculum and supporting both students and faculty in addressing burnout, a subject on which he has become a recognized speaker.
Before this role, Dr. Aran was the medical director of population health management at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma from 2016 to 2018. During this period, he explored how insurance models could better align with population health initiatives, advocating for an expanded definition of healthcare teams that includes not only physicians and nurses but also emergency rooms, hospitals and other entities essential to comprehensive patient care.
In 2015, Dr. Aran held the position of vice president for system quality at Saint Francis Health System, following his service as the senior vice president for quality from 2013 to 2015. He previously served as the chief medical officer and senior vice president between 2010 and 2012, and was the associate chief medical officer and senior vice president in 2009. Throughout his leadership at Saint Francis Health System, Dr. Aran contributed significantly to executive hiring processes and strategic planning as a member of the board of directors for more than a decade. He was instrumental in recruiting new executives during periods of transition and led efforts to enhance quality across the organization.
From 1991 to 2009, Dr. Aran maintained a private practice as a gastroenterologist and internist with Gastroenterology Specialists Inc., following a brief appointment with Adult Gastroenterology Specialists beginning in 1990. His clinical expertise was grounded in years of direct patient care, which he regards as one of the most impactful aspects of his career. Dr. Aran consistently prioritized making a difference in the lives of patients and their families, a value he instilled in medical students, residents and fellows throughout his teaching roles.
Dr. Aran began his academic career as an instructor in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals from 1987 to 1988 before advancing to assistant professor between 1988 and 1990. These formative years allowed him to develop his teaching philosophy centered on the "multiplier effect," believing that by mentoring future healthcare professionals, he could extend his positive influence far beyond individual patient encounters.
Dr. Aran was born at the U.S. Air Force Base in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, where his father served as a captain. His education years later laid a strong foundation for his achievements. He received a Doctor of Medicine from the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. He then completed a residency in internal medicine on campus in 1984, followed by fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in 1987. To further enhance his leadership capabilities, Dr. Aran obtained a certificate in healthcare management from Oklahoma City University in 2018.
Dedicated to organized medicine, Dr. Aran chaired the board of directors for the Oklahoma State Medical Association from 2020 to 2021. In this capacity, he contributed to statewide initiatives aimed at improving physician well-being and healthcare delivery. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Dr. Aran remains actively involved with civic-minded organizations, notably serving on the board of directors for Saint Francis Health System for over a decade.
Notably, Dr. Aran's career success has been highlighted in The Wall Street Journal in October 2025 at https://www.24-7pressrelease.com/press-release/532788/peter-aran-md-featured-in-the-wall-street-journal. He attributes much of his accomplishments to the support network formed by teachers, colleagues and patients who have shaped his professional journey. Their guidance has enabled Dr. Aran to grow personally and professionally while maintaining a focus on compassionate care. He also notes his wife's unwavering support and her role as a neuroscientist in sustaining their family's well-being through the years.
Throughout his career, Dr. Aran has witnessed significant changes within the industry, including the emergence of artificial intelligence as a transformative force in healthcare. He recognizes both its potential benefits and challenges, drawing parallels with earlier technological shifts such as the advent of the Internet. Looking ahead, Dr. Aran is dedicated to advancing recognition for caregivers within the healthcare system. He is engaged with over 170 medical schools, including approximately 35 within a consortium, focused on reforming medical training so that future physicians understand the critical role family caregivers play alongside trained professionals in supporting patient wellness.
