CHASKA, MN, July 31, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Matt Richardson has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Big organizations are often defined by their scale: thousands of employees, complex operations, ambitious financial goals and a relentless pace of change. But after more than two decades at Target, Matt Richardson has learned that scale is not what makes an organization successful. People do.
His career has taken him from a store internship to leading large, distributed teams and complex operations across hundreds of locations. Along the way, he's managed stores, supported major remodels, led health care operations, helped develop and launch Target Drive Up, and overseen a team of more than 600 employees across 574 stores. Today, as senior director of property management for infrastructure and field operations, he leads through four directors whose teams manage work that must balance business performance, brand standards and the needs of stores and supply chain buildings.
The responsibilities have changed, but his leadership philosophy has remained consistent: provide clarity, build trust and give talented people the confidence to lead.
This becomes increasingly important as a leader's scope grows. You cannot personally solve every problem across hundreds of locations. Leadership at scale requires setting a clear direction and then empowering others to translate that direction into action. His role is not to have every answer. It is to ensure his leaders understand the destination, have the context to make sound decisions and know he will support them as they lead their teams.
"Speed and empathy are not competing priorities. In fact, the strongest organizations need both. Clear expectations allow teams to move quickly. Listening helps leaders understand what may prevent those expectations from becoming reality. Accountability raises performance, while genuine investment in people creates the trust needed to sustain it."
The accomplishment he values most is not a program, an award or a business result. It is seeing dozens of leaders he's supported advance into roles across store leadership, human resources, headquarters, field operations and supply chain management. Their success is a reminder that a leader's impact should extend well beyond the work directly in front of them.
Matt also knows leadership does not begin or end at the office. Serving through his church, children's ministry, youth sports programs and scouting has reinforced many of the same lessons: be present, listen carefully, provide direction and help others recognize their own potential. His family, including his three children, keep those lessons grounded in what matters most.
"Being selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who is a meaningful honor, but no career is built alone. Whatever I have accomplished reflects the strength of the teams I have been fortunate to lead and the stakeholders, mentors and family members who have supported me."
Big business will continue to move faster and become more complex. The leaders who thrive will be those who can simplify that complexity, bring people together around a shared purpose and create the conditions for others to succeed.
Because even at the largest scale, leadership remains deeply personal.
