His tenure at JPMorgan Chase was notably interrupted on September 11, 2001, when he was called to active duty as a member of the United States Army Reserve. From 1990 to 2002, he served in the U.S. Army, Reserve achieving the rank of lieutenant and specializing as a financial management technician under the 36 Bravo Military Occupational Specialty. He earned both airborne and air assault qualifications during his service.
