BROOKLYN, NY, August 10, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sebastian Grant has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Grant has established a distinguished career as a curator and professor, recognized for his expertise in research on African American jewelry artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. From 2020 to 2026, he played a pivotal role in organizing exhibitions highlighting contemporary African Diaspora artists and designers. Notably, he co-curated "Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture" – his first major museum exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Design, which opened from 2025 to 2026 and is currently on display at the Walters Museum in Baltimore. Known as the main jewelry designer from the Black Panther films, who worked under costume designer Ruth E. Carter, the show introduced Fletcher's extraordinary work to a wider public and significantly increased awareness of Black jewelry as an art form.

Mr. Grant also organized other exhibitions in 2025 while producing "Jewelry of the Afrofuture." Notably, he curated "The Story Makers" at Gallery Loupe in Montclair, New Jersey, which featured seven African American female jewelry designers, including Douriean Fletcher, Cheryl R. Riley, and MacArthur Fellow Joyce J. Scott. Some of the pieces from the show are currently being acquired by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. He also curated "Miserere," featuring the work of Marilyn Seven, at 81 Leonard Gallery in collaboration with Union Theological Seminary. Both shows received acclaim for their innovative approach to design history and cultural representation.

In addition to his primary work, since 2017, he has served as a professor at Parsons School of Design at The New School, where he has contributed to the academic landscape for nine years. His tenure at the New School is marked by his commitment to expanding the discourse about art history and research practices, particularly through the lens of underrepresented communities. Mr. Grant has intermittently taught as an adjunct faculty member at the New York School of Interior Design since 2023. He collaborated with architect and professor Warren Ashworth on an architectural history course and helped redesign the design history curriculum to incorporate global perspectives. This revised course will debut in the fall of 2026, with Mr. Grant slated to teach one of its classes.

Educationally, Mr. Grant's background includes a Master of Arts in the History of Design and Curatorial Studies program from Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York City, completed in 2017 and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Art History and Classics from McGill University in Montreal in 2015. He also completed six months of French curatorial and critical studies coursework at Parsons Paris, which enhanced his proficiency in French, along with other languages, including Latin, Ancient Greek, Italian, and German, which he learned throughout his education.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Grant gained experience as a curatorial intern at Uprise Art in 2017 and worked as an artist assistant to Zigi Ben-Haim that same year. He also worked at the Cooper Hewitt as a curatorial intern for their triennial exhibit "Beauty". Other jobs included working as an arts intern at Bloomsbury Publishing Plc and a New York assistant at the Royal College of Art in London, among many others.

A significant milestone in Mr. Grant's career was being selected as the first participant in the HDCS Curatorial Capstone Project. This opportunity allowed him to serve as a curatorial assistant at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum under curator Cindy Trope. In this position, he was able to contribute research for the exhibition "Jewelry of Ideas: Gifts from the Susan Grant Lewin Collection." This position then led him to act as Collections Manager for The Susan Grant Lewin Collection between 2017 and 2024, overseeing acquisitions and research, and helping coordinate exhibitions of the collection in institutions such as the Yale University Art Gallery and the Savannah College of Art and Design. In 2018, he served as a consulted curator for Materials for the Arts in New York, producing a show celebrating their 40th Anniversary.

Mr. Grant's entry into his profession followed exploration across various fields before discovering jewelry's conceptual dimensions during his curatorial capstone project. This experience led him to examine jewelry beyond luxury or material value – viewing it as wearable art – and inspired further research in the Black and BIPOC representation after 2020. Through program collaborations, archives, and artist interviews, he traced artistic lineages in jewelry-making back to important movements such as the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Black Lives Matter protests.

Mr. Grant has received numerous honors, including as a research fellow with the publications department at the Cooper Hewitt, the Lois Moran Award for Craft Writing in 2022, the Daphne Farago Fund Lecture Series in 2022, and an Outstanding Student Award at Parsons. His scholarly works include authoring several works published by the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG), such as "Explorations in Black Jewelry" and "Of Body Adornment and the Spirit." Mr. Grant also contributed a chapter on Black jewelry for D Wood's compendium The Politics of Global Craft. He has also been featured in other publications such as Salon, Vogue, and Forbes. He has also conducted interviews with Cheryl R. Riley for Metalsmith and presented the SNAG Lifetime Legacy Achievement Award to Joyce J. Scott. His scholarship also encompasses articles on Huguenot glassmaking for the Huguenot Society Journal and "Looking at Orientalism behind the Ottoman" for Objective Journal, as well as lectures at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Museum of Arts and Design, and Design Miami. He gives credit to his parents for their unwavering support and attributes his success to their encouragement throughout his pursuit of a challenging career path.

Mr. Grant is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of North American Goldsmiths, the Fine Objects Society, and the International Council of Museums. He had also served as external vice president of the Classics Students division of the Arts Undergraduate Society at McGill University, serving in the position from 2013 to 2015.

Outside his work, Mr. Grant participated in volunteer work as a Cyberknife™ research assistant with Capital Health Hospital in Pennington, New Jersey, a research director assistant at the Charlotte Kimmelman Cancer Center in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, a member of the Rotary Club and donor to the Salvation Army. He also enjoys playing guitar, writing songs and composing poetry as hobbies.

Looking ahead, Mr. Grant aims to secure a position as a curator or researcher specializing in contemporary art and design within galleries or museums—particularly those focused on African Diaspora art—while broadening conversations around art and design through institutional engagement and consistent exhibition projects.
