PARK RIVER, ND, August 17, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mark Hylden has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hylden's professional journey is deeply rooted in the legacy of his family's North Dakota farm, which was homesteaded by his great-grandparents in 1881 while still Dakota Territory after their arrival from Norway. Since 1960, he has served as a farmer's son and since 1974, Mark has been the owner of Hylden Farms of North Dakota and Golden Valley Flax, cultivating some of the nation's highest-quality hard red spring wheat and flax with recognized awards from the Chicago Hay and Grain Show and North Dakota State Fair, top flax and hard red spring wheat in the nation.
Under Mark Hylden's stewardship, the farm has become renowned for its agricultural excellence, a reputation built on generations of innovation and hard work. His expertise in flax seeds and red spring wheat has positioned him as a leading figure in his field, and he is widely recognized for his knowledge of farming these crops, as well as for his skill in multitasking and in lay preaching the Good News of Christ across North Dakota and Minnesota.
During the challenging agricultural climate of the 1980s, Mark Hylden faced significant adversity when his family's farm was threatened with foreclosure by the Federal Land Bank. In 1990, after the dissolution of his father's farm, Hylden Brothers merged into two new father-son partnerships; he and his cousin Kenny assumed management responsibilities. Through perseverance, prayer and sound management, they paid off the multimillion-dollar farm over 22 crop years, ultimately preserving its legacy for future generations. This accomplishment stands among Mr. Hylden's proudest achievements, saving and paying for the family farm.
Mr. Hylden's career is also distinguished by his commitment to advancing agricultural science. He has collaborated with prominent researchers such as Dr. Lillian Thompson at the University of Toronto on breast cancer research, Dr. Boyd Switzer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on prostate cancer studies, Dr. Verghese at Alabama A&M University on colon cancer research and Dr. Reindl at North Dakota State University on heart health studies related to flaxseed consumption. All of these studies have been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Notably, Mr. Hylden's Golden Valley Flax is currently under study by NASA for potential use on Mars missions, with research led by Dr. Melpo Christofidou-Solomidou at the University of Pennsylvania. Also Sanford Health in partnership with Dr. Reindl at North Dakota State University for the cardiovascular benefits of Golden Valley Flax.
In addition to his work as a farmer, Mr. Hylden dedicated two decades as a Sunday school superintendent, guiding youth in spiritual education and leadership. He has also been an active member of several organizations, including the American Farm Bureau Federation and United Campus Christian Fellowship, where he served as president and Bible study leader. His involvement extends to music ministry as a member of the North Valley Men's Choir and as president of the Walsh County Farm Bureau.
Mr. Hylden's academic background includes a bachelor's degree in sociology from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, which provided him with insights into community dynamics that have informed both his farming practices and leadership approach. He also completed coursework at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Mark was also the starting left offensive tackle for the Wildcats, who were ranked #7 in the nation in college football. His understanding of family history and faith was further deepened through discussions with Dr. Hans Kandel at North Dakota State University, Dr Hanson at Princeton Theological Seminary and from that help, Mark wrote a scholarly article for publication in a national magazine about flax in the Bible, the importance of being covered over by the blood of Christ was the main point of that paper based upon Bible accounts from the book of Joshua all the way thru to the final book of Revelation where those arrayed in robes of white, the robes were made of linen that comes from flax straw.
Throughout his career, Mr. Hylden has received numerous honors. These include being named Outstanding Farmer by the American Farm Bureau Federation, earning distinction as a national debate champion with that organization and as state debate champion in North Dakota, as well as inclusion in Who's Who in American Colleges. He was also recognized for athletic achievement as an all-conference football player (ranked seventh nationally), starting offensive left tackle for the Wildcats in college, and as an all-conference basketball player. Additionally, he sang in the all-state choir at the International Peace Gardens and toured the state of North Dakota with that choir.
Mark Hylden's creative endeavors include writing "Build the Perfect North Dakota Gift Basket" for Golden Valley Flax and developing its website to promote local agriculture. He also authored a scholarly article about flax in the Bible published by Biblical Archaeology Review through the Biblical Archaeology Society and has delivered sermons as a lay preacher throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. Mark is currently writing a book about a Modern Day Job and when completed will be traveling the USA preaching Christ and promoting the book as it will help thousands overcome the question asked by Job, "Why do bad things happen to good people?"
Civic engagement is central to Mark Hylden's life philosophy. He has participated in Thanksgiving meal programs serving Park River and Grafton communities and volunteers regularly to serve God and help others.
Born in Grafton, Mark Hylden is most proud of his three sons — Jordan, Jarrod and Justin — each of whom holds a doctoral degree in theology and serves faithfully within their respective church communities across Texas, Minnesota and Ohio. For Mark Hylden, seeing his sons dedicate their lives to the service of Christ remains his greatest accomplishment.
A steadfast commitment to faith guides every aspect of Mark Hylden's life and work. He attributes his ability to understand scripture without altering its meaning to divine guidance and believes that God has called him to share lessons from modern-day experiences, including those reminiscent of Job, through writing and ministry. His enduring impact on agriculture, research collaborations that have advanced public health knowledge about flaxseed benefits and dedication to community service underscore a lifetime devoted to stewardship, faithfulness and helping others thrive.
