BALTIMORE, MD, August 17, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dolores Katherine Drumheller, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Drumheller's career reflects a remarkable trajectory through scientific, technical and educational fields, marked by innovation and adaptability. Most recently, she founded dpxworks Photography, an engineering firm she established after retiring from government contracting. For approximately five years, Dr. Drumheller provided educational services to a major government organization, supporting its extensive training division. She developed courses, supervised staff, and performed systems engineering for the design and delivery of training programs. The company was primarily staffed by Dr. Drumheller herself, with occasional assistance from one or two individuals. Although dpxworks technically remains in existence, it is no longer active.
Prior to launching her own business, Dr. Drumheller retired from full-time government contracting work around 2015, having built a distinguished career across three distinct phases. Her final years in the field were spent as a networking and signal-processing specialist. She worked for several large engineering companies including Northrop Grumman, Mantech Advanced Systems International, Essex Corporation, Sensys Development Laboratories. During this time, she was employed by The Aerospace Corporation. where she combined her expertise in networking and signal processing to address complex technical challenges within the aerospace sector. From 2003 to 2010, she served as a systems engineer at Northrop Grumman, contributing to high-level systems engineering projects during a period of significant technological advancement.
Dr. Drumheller's international experience includes her role as a networking specialist at MANTECH in England. There, she worked on joint British-American initiatives at a military base, applying her skills in both networking infrastructure and satellite communications. Before this, she spent three years as a systems specialist with the National Security Agency and Central Security Service (NSA/CSS), where she gained foundational experience in real-world computer operations and advanced government technologies.
Her earlier professional journey included serving as a an educator and laboratory technologist within the Baltimore hospital system. During this time, Dr. Drumheller was appointed to train employees on one of the first comprehensive hospital computer systems and established the hospital library's internet computers to provide physicians with access to internet-based medical databases and professional associations.
Before transitioning into technical fields, Dr. Drumheller dedicated approximately a decade to teaching science at the junior high and high school levels within the Bethlehem school system in Pennsylvania. Her career began at age 15 as a clinical laboratory technician in the American hospital laboratory system, working alongside pathologists and remaining connected to healthcare into her mid-to-late 20s.
Throughout her career, Dr. Drumheller achieved expertise in networking, signal processing and satellite communications related to networking — areas in which she made significant contributions. Among her proudest achievements are two major milestones: first, her work on satellite communications methodology for network signal transmission; second, her involvement in the early development of video calling technology as part of a team collaborating with Lucent Technologies. This pioneering effort helped build and test a network capable of supporting global video calls at a time when such communication did not yet exist.
Her commitment to professional excellence is further reflected in her memberships and certifications. Dr. Drumheller is a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), in recognition of her longstanding contributions to the electrical engineering disciplines. She also held membership in a professional organization of systems engineers for several years and earned Project Management Institute accreditation as a Project Management Professional.
Dr. Drumheller's academic background has been integral to her success across multiple domains. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in applied management and decision sciences from Walden University LLC in 2013, completing coursework that included early developments in artificial intelligence at one of the first fully online, accredited American institutions to offer such a program. She holds a Master of Arts in education with a specialization in mycology from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where she pursued dual studies while teaching science, gaining extensive exposure to botany and fungal research as part of her sub-major requirements.
Her academic foundation also includes master's level studies in microbiology at The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Arts in computer science from the University of Maryland. Dr. Drumheller began her undergraduate studies at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia as an art major before switching to biology at her mother's urging; she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences after receiving rigorous scientific training from respected faculty.
The drive for achievement that has characterized Dr. Drumheller's career can be traced back to her family's strong emphasis on education — many relatives hold doctoral degrees — as well as support from mentors such as her aunt, who was named Nurse of the Year and helped found two university branches. Dr. Drumheller credits much of her success to encouragement from family members, friends, colleagues and employers who supported her decisions throughout her professional journey.
Beyond her formal roles, Dr. Drumheller has demonstrated civic commitment through four years of volunteer service with Barnardo's in England. She completed required training with this leading children's charity and organized youth programs for teenagers, including activities for young people with disabilities.
Her government contracting work earned Dr. Drumheller several honors and awards for performance recognition and specific project accomplishments; some recognitions remain classified due to the sensitive nature of her contributions.
Born in Allentown, Dr. Drumheller is the mother of four children and maintains close relationships with six or seven grandchildren across both sides of her family. She met her current husband while stationed at an Anglo-American base in England; together, they divide their time between homes in the United States and the United Kingdom, with their daughter residing at their U.S. home when they are abroad.
In retirement, Dr. Drumheller has cultivated interests beyond engineering by pursuing photography at a professional level — selling some of her work — as well as sewing and traveling extensively between continents. She remains engaged with former colleagues through LinkedIn but is uncertain about returning to paid employment unless remote opportunities arise that accommodate her transatlantic lifestyle.
Reflecting on decades of progress for women in technical fields, Dr. Drumheller takes pride in having advanced from an era with limited opportunities for women into leadership roles within science, technology and education, achievements that would have seemed unattainable at the outset of her career.
