Earlier in her career, Dr. Ohanian completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Hahnemann University Hospital in 1988. Her academic journey began at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in physiology-biology, a Master of Science in biology and physiology and a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry. She graduated magna cum laude from The Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel University College of Medicine) with a Doctor of Medicine degree. These academic accomplishments provided a strong foundation for her multifaceted expertise and enabled her to excel in both clinical practice and research.
Dr. Ohanian holds numerous certifications that underscore her dedication to maintaining the highest standards within her specialties. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, board certified in laser surgery and board certified in regenerative medicine. She is a diplomate of both the American Society and Board of Regenerative Medicine and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, as well as a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her credentials also include licensure in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, certification in tumescent liposuction, botox and dermal fillers, ultrasound from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and specialized training in urodynamics, urogynecology, urethral support systems for stress incontinence and female pelvic floor reconstruction.
Throughout her education and career, Dr. Ohanian has credited her parents' unspoken expectations as a driving force behind her achievements. Motivated by their encouragement to succeed, she pursued ambitious goals independently — fluent in four languages and mastering two, participating in dual medical programs simultaneously and completing their rigorous requirements with a Magna Cum Laude within three years. Her thesis was written in French before being proofread, typed and submitted as part of the requirements of her Medical Degree.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Ohanian has contributed significantly to scientific literature and research projects. She authored "A Model for the Regulation of Brain Adenylate Cyclase by Ionic Equilibrium," published by the Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes in 1981. Her collaborative works include "Regulation of the responsiveness to calcium of hypothalamic adenylate cyclase" for Federation Proceedings in 1980 and "The hypothalamic-pituitary gonadal axis during hyperthyroidism in the rat" for Endocrinology in 1979. She has also served as a reviewer for the Institutional Review Board at IRCM. Her research fellowship with the Department of Medicine at the Veterans Administration further highlights her commitment to advancing medical knowledge.
Her family's legacy, as Armenian Genocide survivors who settled in Aleppo following profound hardships, deeply influences Dr. Ohanian's personal history. Born there herself, she draws strength from this heritage as she continues to pursue excellence professionally and personally. Outside her medical practice, Dr. Ohanian enjoys hiking, walking, swimming and ballroom dancing.
