Additionally, Mr. Shumsky owns Fabrications and Fixes LLC, a venture he established in 2024. Prior to his current leadership roles, he served as an operator at Molson Coors Beverage Company's Rocky Mountain Bottle Company in 2024 following his tenure as a glass bottle-forming operator at Molson Coors Brewery from 2023 to 2024. His experience also includes serving as warehouse manager and project manager for The One Group (STK Steakhouse, Kona Grill) from 2022 to 2023. For the preceding two years, he held the positions of steel foreman and shop foreman at RoxBox Containers, where he further honed his expertise in steel construction and team leadership.
Mr. Shumsky's earlier professional journey included three years as part of the steel team at Hastings Brothers Construction from 2017 to 2020. This period was instrumental in developing his passion for welding and collaborative work environments. Before this, he worked as a journeyman at Flatirons Plumbing from 2015 to 2017.
Before entering the skilled trades, Mr. Shumsky served in the military as an Infantry squad leader, 0311 in the United States Marine Corps at Twenty-nine Palms from 2010 to 2014. This experience stands as a cornerstone of his career, and he considers bringing his Marine squad members home safely from deployments to Afghanistan his most significant achievement.
Mr. Shumsky's educational background includes coursework that laid the foundation for his practical skills in the trades. He holds an emergency medical technician certification from Front Range Community College and has earned multiple welding certifications. Throughout his career, he has become an expert in welding, building, creative solutions, original equipment manufacturing, steel construction and industrial skids and pallets.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Shumsky attributes much of his success to the determination and resolve instilled by his Marine Corps service. The discipline learned during those years — particularly the mindset that there is no quitting or procrastination — has shaped how he approaches challenges in business and life alike. He was originally inspired to join the military by his father, whom he lived with for the last year of high school. As an Army veteran, his father encouraged him to pursue military service, a decision Mr. Shumsky considers one of the best of his life. His father and stepmother supported him throughout this transition.
After leaving the Marines in 2014, Mr. Shumsky initially attempted college using his GI Bill but found that path unclear. He then began working as a plumbing apprentice but soon sought better opportunities after realizing the compensation did not meet his needs. Transitioning through beer tap installation work led him to discover welding through a friend at Hastings Brothers Construction, where he spent three years developing technical proficiency and an appreciation for teamwork. These experiences across manufacturing, warehouse management and project management equipped him with comprehensive skills that ultimately inspired him to launch Core-X Steel alongside business partner Ross Riley.
In his personal life, Mr. Shumsky enjoys fly fishing, canoeing, playing hockey and spending time with family outside of work. He is in a father with a daughter named Noel, honoring his late father by continuing the family legacy through her name. Looking ahead professionally, he intends to establish Core-X Steel as one of the top leaders in skids and industrial steel manufacturing by never taking shortcuts and standing by their products with strong warranties.
