Ms. Mukherjee ensures that all grapes used in production are fresh, with wide white varieties grown on-site and select red varieties sourced from regions better suited to their cultivation. Every step of the winemaking process—from crushing and fermenting to bottling and labeling—is completed at the winery, with no pre-made juice or outside wine products incorporated. By adding minimal sulfites, she produces wines that have garnered a loyal customer base appreciative of their clean taste and smooth finish. As of 2026, Heartstone Farm & Winery offers 21 different varieties, with Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc among the most popular whites and Pinotage and Petite Sirah leading the reds.

Before establishing the winery, Ms. Mukherjee spent two decades as owner and operator of an after-school math and reading center serving students from preschool through high school. Since founding her first learning center in Niantic, she has expanded to operate two locations, including one in Glastonbury. Over the past 20 years, she has helped more than 5,000 children strengthen their academic skills through individualized, self-paced programs designed to support both enrichment and remediation. The centers focus on building foundational skills, preparing students for high school and standardized tests such as the SAT. Students typically spend about 20 minutes each day working with supplemental materials tailored to their abilities rather than grade level. Ms. Mukherjee's vision for the centers was inspired by her desire to provide a supportive environment where every child could build confidence and achieve academic success.

A significant milestone in her career was the redevelopment of an abandoned property in Niantic into an 11,500-square-foot commercial building that now houses five tenants, including her learning center. This project earned her the Community Revitalization Leader of the Year award from the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut in 2014, presented in recognition of her contributions to local revitalization efforts.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Mukherjee gained experience in construction by developing the building at 179 Flanders Road in Niantic. Her ability to identify opportunities for growth and transformation has been a hallmark throughout her professional journey.

Ms. Mukherjee was actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut as a board member and past committee chair. Her engagement with the chamber reflects her ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses and fostering economic development.

Her academic background includes a Master of Business Administration from Maryland, a Master of Science in Geography and Urban Planning from The University of Akron and a Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems from Chennai, India. These degrees have provided her with a strong foundation in business management, urban development and spatial analysis—skills that have proven invaluable across her ventures in education, construction and winemaking.

Ms. Mukherjee holds several certifications that reflect her diverse interests and expertise. She earned a captain's license after completing training that allows her to operate boats—a pursuit she finds both relaxing and rewarding. She also completed coursework toward a co-pilot's license at Groton Airport, accumulating 20 hours of flight training before choosing to focus on boating due to family concerns about aviation safety. Additionally, she holds an Indian classical dance proficiency certification after studying the art form for 18 years; she continues to perform at cultural gatherings as a way to celebrate Indian traditions.

Her determination and perseverance have been central to her achievements. Ms. Mukherjee describes herself as someone who never gives up—qualities that have enabled her to overcome challenges and realize ambitious goals across multiple fields.

In addition to her business accomplishments, Ms. Mukherjee is deeply committed to civic engagement as founder and chief executive officer of Aaditi, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community service and cultural engagement. Through Aaditi, she leads volunteer initiatives such as serving at soup kitchens, organizing coat drives, cleaning beaches and teaching children about cultural traditions on Sunday mornings—an endeavor she finds especially fulfilling.

Outside her professional life, Ms. Mukherjee enjoys boating, walking on the beach and dancing—particularly Indian classical dance—which allows her to share her heritage with others.
