From 2023 to 2026, Mr. Jamal served as a Communications Officer for Yonkers Public Schools. This role held particular significance for him, as he had attended these schools during his youth. Drawing on his personal experiences and understanding of the community's needs, he collaborated with the new superintendent to launch a comprehensive overhaul of the district's website, ensuring full ADA compliance and improved outreach to diverse communities.

Mr. Jamal also oversaw the development of a mobile application for Yonkers Public Schools that allowed students and families easier access to their information, an innovation he wished had existed during his own school years. These initiatives enhanced communication between families and the school district, ensuring stakeholders' voices were heard and considered.

In 2022 to 2023, Mr. Jamal was appointed Assistant Vice President of Communications and Government Affairs at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation at just 25 years old. Taking this responsibility to heart, he worked closely with the Governor's Office, other State Authorities, including the MTA and New York City partners to elevate Roosevelt Island's profile as a unique community within New York City. He built a dedicated communications team, created a constituent services department and oversaw youth programming along with recreation initiatives from the Island's Youth Bureau.

Between 2019 and 2022, Mr. Jamal held the position of Deputy Communications Director for the City of Yonkers during a period marked by significant challenges. Amid the pandemic in 2020, he was appointed by Mayor Spano to lead the city of Yonkers Census Committee as part of the nationwide campaign led by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross Jr. Thanks to the efforts under the Yonkers Census Committee, Yonkers moved from being the fourth to the third-largest city in New York State by ensuring every resident was counted — including undocumented individuals — despite public health restrictions. The city received recognition from the Secretary of Commerce for these accomplishments.

In 2020, following the death of George Floyd, former Governor Andrew Cuomo called on municipalities to implement police reforms; Mr. Jamal was selected as the Mayor's representative as part of a 21-member committee that proposed 22 recommendations for reforming police department policies and community interactions. All recommendations were implemented, and Mr. Jamal was charged with drafting the final report that the City of Yonkers submitted and earned recognition in the Governor's State of the State address – the only city in New York State.

Previously, from 2018 to 2019, Mr. Jamal served as an Executive Assistant to the Mayor for the City of Yonkers. In this role, he supported executive functions within city government during a period of growth and transformation. That same year, he was Campaign Manager for Mike Spano's successful bid for mayor as a Democrat. Mr. Jamal began his tenure with city government as a special assistant to the mayor from 2014 to 2018.

Mr. Jamal's dedication extends beyond his professional responsibilities through active involvement in industry organizations. These include the National School Public Relations Association, NYSPRA and National Association of Government Communicators.

Education has played a pivotal role in shaping Mr. Jamal's career trajectory. He earned a Master of Business Administration in finance from Lubin School of Business at Pace University. Prior to this achievement, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in communications at Fordham University and an Associate of Arts and Sciences in global business from Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York.

In 2022, Mr. Jamal further enhanced his expertise through several professional certifications, including Six Sigma Foundations and Podcasting for Enterprises through LinkedIn Corporation, Project Management Simplified also through LinkedIn Corporation, and Bloomberg Market Concepts through Bloomberg L.P.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Jamal attributes his success to God and his parents' unwavering guidance. Inspired by their sacrifices after immigrating from Guyana without transferable formal education credentials — his mother working as a store clerk and his father holding various manufacturing roles — Mr. Jamal learned resilience and gratitude from an early age.

Mr. Jamal's entry into public service began with community organizing during an internship focused on environmental stewardship along the Old Croton Aqueduct in Westchester County. By mobilizing student volunteers through the Unified Student Council for a citywide cleanup event, he demonstrated leadership that caught local officials' attention and set him on a path toward civic engagement.

Civic involvement remains central to Mr. Jamal's identity. He has served as a board member for Westchester Legal Aid Society since 2026 and the Yonkers Parking Authority since 2025, while also maintaining long-standing commitments as a board member for Richmond Community Services since 2018 and committee co-ward leader for the Yonkers Democratic Party since 2021. As mayor's liaison to the American Muslim Advisory Council since 2015 and former mentor with Brother's Keeper, he continues fostering connections across diverse communities.

Mr. Jamal's contributions include membership on national associations such as the National School Public Relations Association and past participation with the National Association of Government Communicators from 2022 to 2023. Notably, he played an integral role on Yonkers' police department reform committee from 2020 to 2021.
