Prior to joining Cherokee Strategic Edge, Ms. Hughes served as a lead tactical systems operator at L3Harris Technologies from 2022 to 2024. In this capacity, she contributed to the operational effectiveness of tactical systems, drawing on her extensive background in mission operations and technical instruction. From 2019 to 2022, she held the position of full motion video operator at L3Harris Technologies, where she was responsible for supporting critical defense operations through advanced video analysis.

Earlier, Ms. Hughes served as a senior mission systems operator at Pegasus Technologies Inc. from 2016 to 2019, further solidifying her reputation in the industry. There, she played a key role in mission planning and execution within complex operational environments. Between 2012 and 2016, Ms. Hughes was an instructor sensor operator at L3Harris Technologies, where her passion for teaching was evident. She developed curriculum materials and provided hands-on instruction to new operators, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.

Ms. Hughes' foundational experience was shaped during her service in the United States Air Force from 2002 to 2012 as lead evaluator sensor operator, dual-qualified sensor operator and air operations technician. Over more than a decade of military service — including seven deployments to locations such as Iraq and Afghanistan — she developed deep expertise in communications and operational coordination.

During this period, Ms. Hughes' most notable achievement was mentoring young airmen, an impact that continues to resonate years later. She considers the opportunity to guide and support others among her greatest accomplishments, alongside earning Best Instructor of the Year — an honor that reflected her dedication to reaching every student and fostering their growth.

Throughout her distinguished military career, Ms. Hughes received numerous accolades recognizing both her technical proficiency and leadership abilities. She was named sensor operator of the year by the United States Air Force in 2010, squadron noncommissioned officer of the year in 2008 and airborne operations technical instructor of the year in 2006. Additionally, she was awarded the Combat Action Medal and twenty Air Medals for combat flying.

Ms. Hughes' academic achievements have been instrumental in supporting her professional success. She earned a Bachelor of Science in alternative and complementary medicine and medical systems from Everglades University in 2020. She also holds an associate degree in air and space operations technology from the Community College of the Air Force in Montgomery, Alabama, completed in 2012. Further enhancing her skill set, Ms. Hughes obtained certification in Excel Skills for Business: Essentials from Macquarie University in 2026.

Professional development remains central to Ms. Hughes' journey. She is an active member of the Alaska Chapter of the Project Management Institute, engaging with peers to stay abreast of best practices in project management and leadership within defense-related fields.

The foundation for Ms. Hughes's achievements can be traced to formative influences early in life. Inspired by her grandfather's service in the Army Air Corps, she joined the United States Air Force with a desire to honor his legacy through dedicated service.
