SANTA CRUZ, CA, September 16, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Todd James Bayless has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Bayless has established a distinguished career in architecture and has served as the owner and architect at Bayless Architecture since 2024. In this capacity, he specializes in high-end residential and restaurant design, focusing on serving single-family homeowners, designing home remodels, planning accessory dwelling units and additions, and expanding residential living spaces. His expertise in navigating local building jurisdictions, expediting permits, understanding building regulations and assessing project feasibility has set him apart as a leader in his field.
Prior to founding his own practice, Mr. Bayless was a project architect with William C. Kempf, Architects, from 2022 to 2024. In this role, he contributed to a range of architectural projects, further refining his skills in both residential and commercial design. From 2017 to 2021, he served as project manager at Flury Bryant Design Group Inc., where he managed various high-end residential assignments and deepened his expertise in project coordination.
From 2011 to 2017, Mr. Bayless served as a project manager at MBH Architects. During this period, he gained valuable experience overseeing commercial and restaurant architecture projects, with an emphasis on interiors. This foundation enabled him to develop a strong understanding of the complexities of large-scale developments. From 2010 to 2011, he worked as a CAD consultant at Timmons Design Engineers, providing technical support for design engineering projects.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Bayless was an associate at Ibsen Senty Architecture from 2007 to 2008 and a draftsman at Jeffrey DeMure + Associates Architects Planners Inc. in 2007. These roles provided him with early exposure to architectural drafting and design processes. He also completed an internship at RMW from 2003 to 2005, which offered foundational experience in the field. Additionally, Mr. Bayless spent one year as an English language teacher with NOVA Co. Ltd in 2006.
Among his professional milestones, Mr. Bayless is most proud of designing and constructing a 20-unit affordable housing building for the Housing Authority of Santa Cruz, completed in 2024. He regards this achievement as especially significant due to its positive impact on providing accessible housing solutions within the community.
Mr. Bayless earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture from the University of California, Davis, in 2005. This academic background provided him with both creative and technical skills that have been instrumental throughout his career. In addition to his degree, he has been licensed as an architect by the California Architects Board since 2015. The combination of formal education and professional certification has enabled Mr. Bayless to excel in complex architectural environments.
He attributes much of his success to the support of colleagues, consultants and former associates whose referrals have contributed greatly to his business growth and ongoing opportunities. Early inspiration for his career came from a desire for creativity beyond engineering studies, leading him to architecture — a field that blends practical problem-solving with artistic expression.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Bayless is actively involved in civic organizations, such as serving on the board of the Santa Cruz Rotary Club. His commitment to community engagement is further reflected in recognitions, including the Best of Houzz awards in both 2023 and 2024.
In addition to architecture, Mr. Bayless is passionate about board games and game design. He founded MaliModi Game Labs, where he developed titles including Spellcrafter and Seawarden, and another game, Tenshu, is set for release soon. His interests also include disc golf, tabletop role-playing games, Magic: The Gathering and video games.
On a personal level, Mr. Bayless credits his father, Jim—a developer from Sacramento—with introducing him to the construction industry and acknowledges his brother Jeff's work as a civil engineer as influential within his family's professional landscape. He recognizes his wife Masi's unwavering encouragement as instrumental in launching his independent practice.
Looking ahead, Mr. Bayless intends to expand his practice as an independent architect with aspirations of growing into a successful business that employs multiple staff members while continuing to make meaningful contributions through both architecture and creative pursuits.
