From 2012 to 2023, Dr. Chau excelled as the chief executive officer of Cultural Intelligence Pty. Ltd., a consultancy she founded to help organizations in the corporate, government and nonprofit sectors understand and embrace cultural diversity. At a time when many Australian corporations focused primarily on gender diversity, she advocated for broader recognition of cultural differences and facilitated important conversations about inclusion. Dr. Chau's work contributed significantly to shifting perspectives within these sectors.

In addition to her consultancy work, Dr. Chau was a program manager at Asialink from 2018 to 2019. She also served as a culture card ambassador coordinator for Culture Card Victoria in 2011 and as a direct services director at Action on Disability within Ethnic Communities from 2007 to 2011. Earlier roles included founder of the Australian Federation of International Students Inc., where she led advocacy efforts for international students between 2002 and 2010, multicultural network coordinator at North West CALD Partnership from 2006 to 2007, and council member at the 3ZZZ Ethnic Community Broadcasting Association of Victoria Limited between 2005 and 2006. In addition, she worked as a management consultant with Australian Healthcare Associates in 2005.

Dr. Chau's academic background is distinguished by a bachelor's degree in engineering and commerce from the University of Melbourne, earned in 2005, followed by a graduate diploma in law from Monash University in Melbourne in 2006, a graduate certificate in business (quality management) from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne in 2009, a master's degree in business management from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne in 2012 and a company directors' course with the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2012, and a Doctor of Philosophy in political science from Swinburne University of Technology in 2025. Her commitment to ongoing professional development is reflected by numerous certifications in areas like training and assessment from CBAA, business governance from BSI Learning and credentials through the University of Cambridge Online in climate change for decision-makers: challenges, transformations, strategies. Active as a member of several professional organizations, Dr. Chau holds membership in the Australian Labor Party and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Her civic engagement has included serving on several advisory boards, including those for the Melbourne Social Equity Institute, the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations under the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Glenuc Holmesglen TAFE Foundation, among others. She has also been active on numerous boards and has contributed significantly as part of the broadcasting community with ongoing involvement at the Ethnic Community Broadcasting Association of Victoria Limited. Moreover, Dr. Chau's commitment to driving change was evident in her earlier candidacy for the Australian Labor Party during the 2022 Australian state election and her participation in multiple elections, including her earlier involvement running in the 2013 Australian federal election.
