PARSIPPANY, NJ, September 23, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Paul T. Miller II has been recognized for achievement in automotive retail and motorsports.
Mr. Miller's career in automotive retail and motorsports spans five decades, marked by his enduring leadership as the founder and chairman of Paul Miller Auto Group since 1976. Serving as the public face of the company, he has guided its transformation from a single Porsche Audi franchise into a regional powerhouse encompassing 11 brands across 15 locations in northern New Jersey.
Under Mr. Miller's stewardship, the organization grew from approximately 40 employees at its inception to a workforce of 700 today. His family regards this growth and the opportunities it created for employees and their families as his most significant accomplishment, reflecting his belief that people are the true differentiator in automotive retail.
In 2010, Mr. Miller expanded his professional pursuits by founding Paul Miller Racing, a team that quickly established itself as one of the most successful in sports car racing. The team achieved notable victories, including wins at the prestigious Daytona 24-hour race in both 2020 and 2026.
This venture built on Mr. Miller's earlier career as a professional race car driver throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He competed internationally for Porsche, including multiple appearances at Le Mans. Domestically, he secured a class victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1988, and he also raced in the Trans-Am series against competitors such as Paul Newman, earning a notable win in 1985 at Lime Rock Park before stepping back from driving to focus on business expansion.
Mr. Miller's love of racing took root early, on a homemade dirt track he and his brother, Kenper, built as boys on family land in Pittsford, New York. That early spark carried him into some of the era's most demanding endurance cars, including a class win at the Mosport Six Hour in 1977. The brothers' parallel paths in racing, and the discipline each later applied elsewhere, trace back to that same shared start.
Before establishing his presence in automotive retail and motorsports, Mr. Miller gained experience in newspaper publishing and media operations. In his twenties, he left Trinity College to manage a newspaper in Texas, following the example set by his father, Paul Miller Sr., who served as chief executive officer of Gannett Co. and president of the Associated Press during the 1970s. When his father retired from Gannett's chairmanship in the late 1970s, Mr. Miller transitioned fully into automotive retail and racing.
Mr. Miller's educational background includes coursework at Trinity College, following graduation with a diploma from Trinity-Pawling School. He credits these formative academic experiences with shaping his approach to leadership and business development. The network and discipline fostered at Trinity-Pawling School contributed to his later success, while exposure to collegiate studies informed his understanding of organizational growth and people management. Mr. Miller attributes much of his achievement to prioritizing people over product differentiation — a philosophy that has defined Paul Miller Auto Group's culture and success.
Mr. Miller's civic engagement is reflected through philanthropy and recognition by community organizations. He has been honored by the Boy Scouts of America for distinguished contributions and is a significant donor to Trinity-Pawling School, where his support is considered a lasting legacy by his family.
Racing remains Mr. Miller's foremost passion outside work, closely followed by skiing in Colorado. Looking ahead, his vision for Paul Miller Auto Group centers on continued growth within existing communities rather than broad geographic expansion. The strategy emphasizes local acquisitions within the company's established footprint while maintaining philanthropic initiatives that benefit Parsippany and other nearby communities in metropolitan northern New Jersey. The race team will continue as part of the company's legacy but with resources focused primarily on supporting employees within the auto group itself.
