Since 2016, he has served as the owner and manager of Southern Financial Advisory LLC, where he specializes in assisting older business owners with the sale of their companies. In this capacity, Mr. Hines connects buyers and sellers, leverages relationships with commercial, investment and merchant bankers, and assembles groups of buyers for company transactions. His approach is marked by a deep understanding of the needs of privately owned businesses, often led by individuals with limited financial expertise.

In addition to his leadership at Southern Financial Advisory, LLC, Mr. Hines has been a consultant with Barrett Capital Management, LLC, a role that he took on earlier in 2014,where he has been advising on business strategy and development.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hines was recruited by First & Merchants National Bank in Richmond, Virginia, following five years at Citibank in Manhattan, New York. At Citibank, he achieved a significant milestone by helping develop a then innovative computer-based financial model. This project remains one of his most notable accomplishments.

Mr. Hines began his professional journey. after completing two years of service as a Lieutenant Jg in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1960. Assigned to a guided missile cruiser as Fire Control Division Officer and Officer of the Deck Underway, he gained valuable leadership experience that would inform his later work in finance and business advisory roles.

Mr. Hines's undergraduate studies were rooted in English, during which time he contributed to his college newspaper and served as Editor-in Chief of the yearbook. The experience that fostered his attention to language and detail throughout his professional life. Following his bachelor's degree, Mr. Hines acquired a Master of Business Administration in financial management services from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia in 1962. His membership in Omicron Delta Kappa during his time at the University of Virginia reflected both leadership and scholarship.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hines has been actively involved in several professional organizations, including Encorepreneur, WHIMBY (What's Happening in My Backyard), the Insiders Club, the Richmond Tip Club and the Focus Club. His civic engagement has also been central to his life outside of work. He has held numerous leadership positions within community organizations, including including Vice Chair of the Board for the First Freedom Center. He has also been lauded as the President of Riverside School, Chair of the Federated Arts Council, and Chair of The Richmond Ballet.

Recognized for his ability to guide clients through complex transitions, Mr. Hines always maintains a standard of professionalism that has earned him lasting respect.
