Cheek, NBCT, Music Teacher at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School in the Charleston County School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of music education.
With 27 years of professional experience, Mrs. Cheek excels in teaching choral music for children and using Orff-Schulwerk pedagogy. Prior to her current position, she served as a music teacher in various schools and insists that music education plays a vital role in the development of children. She attributes her success to her music education, her love for children and the support she received from her parents. She considers co-founding the South Carolina Elementary Honors Choir to be her greatest professional accomplishment. She stays current with the trends in her profession by reading industry-related publications and attending conferences and workshops.
Mrs. Cheek earned her Master of Music in Organ Performance from Radford University in 1973 and her Bachelor of Arts in 1970. She also holds a level III certification from the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. She is the president of the South Carolina Music Educators Association and is affiliated with the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Her chorus often performs for the Carolina Children's Charity and has performed for the Darkness to Light organization. The school where Mrs. Cheek teaches music has received numerous awards including the Kennedy Center Creative Ticket School of Distinction Award and the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award.
