/24-7PressRelease/ - Dumas, TX, August 10, 2008, Dr. Betty Ann Whitson, who has recently retired as a Teacher from Dumas Independent School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of education.

Dr. Whitson has enjoyed a fruitful 36-year career in education. Recognized as an expert in teaching elementary-level science and mathematics, and high school chemistry, she taught at Hillcrest Elementary School for eight years and at Wainwright Elementary School in Houston as a magnet teacher for 28 years. She also taught chemistry and English at Dalhart High School in Dalhart, Texas, worked as a second-grade teacher at Southland Elementary School in Houston, Texas, and worked as a science and math teacher at David Elementary School, in The Woodlands, Texas. Dr. Whitson became involved in her profession because of her passion for teaching and attributes her success to her love for her profession and her readiness to learn.

A product of the University of Houston, Dr. Whitson received her Doctor of Education in Mathematics and Science in 1979. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education at West Texas A&M University in 1958. She is a member of the Metropolitan Association for Teachers of Science and is a recipient of the Best Elementary Science Teacher of Texas Award and the Teacher of the Year Award from Wainwright Elementary School. She volunteers regularly with the First Presbyterian Church and READ. Now officially retired, she plans to focus on her writing.
