Ms. Anderson was a finalist for the Teacher in Space Program and placed second in the nation for AIG's Earth Science Teacher of the Year Award in 2007.

TELLICO PLAINS, TN, December 30, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen S. Anderson, a teacher for the Monroe County Board of Education, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of education.

With 29 years of professional experience, Ms. Anderson's expertise lies in teaching science, environmental education and general education. She is responsible for teaching science to seventh and eighth-grade students and tutoring fifth through eighth-grade students. Additionally, she serves as a grade level science chairperson and as a technology person for the school's website. Her desire to make a difference in the lives of children inspired her to become involved in her profession and she credits her success to her passion for her profession.

Ms. Anderson is proud to mention that she served as a communications and electronics technician for four years in the U.S. Navy. She was a finalist for the Teacher in Space Program and considers seeing her children leaving the classroom knowing science to be the most fulfilling aspect of her career. In addition, she received the Monroe County Teacher of the Year Award in 2004 and placed second in the nation for AIG's Earth Science Teacher of the Year Award in 2007. She co-authored 'The Water Source Book' and has written a program that she utilizes in her classroom published in 'The Social Studies Book.'

Valedictorian of her class, Ms. Anderson received her Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1990, her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1983 and an Associate of Science in Education from Hiwassee College in 1980. She is the co-designer of Bio-diversity Index of her county of East Tennessee and sits on the board of directors of Keep Monroe County Beautiful. She is a member of the Professional Educators of Tennessee, the Tennessee Students Against Pollution Club and a county coordinator for the science fair. A Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor, Ms. Anderson volunteers for the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the American Association for Cancer Research.
