For the last 42 years, Mr. Cohen has served as a bond counsel and underwriters' counsel for municipal bond financings throughout the country. Driven by the pride he takes in his work, he has been an integral member of the law firm of Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP, since joining the firm in 1975. Having developed and demonstrated an expertise in municipal bond banks, economic development projects and project finance revenue bond transactions, he has successfully provided legal services for varied projects including industrial development, solid waste disposal, airport facilities, healthcare facilities, thruway facilities, resource recovery facilities, universities and nonprofit organizations. In addition to his work at Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP, Mr. Cohen shares his insight and expertise (and sense of humor) as a public speaker. Notably, he has lectured and spoken before various organizations and public sector agencies on a variety of topics, ranging from fundamentals of public finance to emerging issues of current interest. For his tremendous work of over nearly 42 years, Mr. Cohen was honored in 2016 with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Development Finance Agencies, and he has been named a Super Lawyer in the New York Metropolitan Area in the legal practice area of government finance for each of the past 13 years.
Mr. Cohen is a graduate of the City College of New York (magna cum laude; Phi Beta Kappa) and Brooklyn Law School (magna cum laude; Articles Editor of Law Review), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1971, and a JD in 1975, respectively. Recognized by the New York State Bar Association, he remains at the top of his field through his memberships with the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the Council of Development Finance Agencies and the New York State Economic Development Council.
