Dr. Ellingwood has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of engineering and higher education

Some of Dr. Ellingwood's other achievements have most recently including a Outstanding Projects and Leaders Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2017.

FORT COLLINS, CO, January 15, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Bruce R. Ellingwood, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Ellingwood celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Ellingwood has been a professor emeritus of structural engineering, mechanics, and materials at the Georgia Institute of Technology and current professor of civil engineering in the department of civil and environmental engineering at Colorado State University since 2013. His wealth of knowledge and expertise in both engineering and academia has included teaching as a distinguished visiting professor at Tsinghua University, at Georgia Institute of Technology for where he served as the Raymond Allen Jones endowed chair in civil engineering, and at Johns Hopkins University as a professor of civil engineering, department chair, and Willard and Lillian Hackerman endowed chair. In the field, Dr. Ellingwood spent three years as a research structural engineer with the Naval Ship Research and Development Center, four years as a leader for the Structural Engineering Group, and 11 years as a research structural engineer for the Center for Building Technology with the National Bureau of Standards.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ellingwood's main research and professional interests have involved applications of probability and statistics to structural engineering, reliability analysis, structural load modeling and analysis of combinations of loads, development of safety and serviceability criteria for structural design, random vibration, response of structures exposed to fires and other abnormal loads, probabilistic risk assessment of engineered facilities, and performance-based engineering. He has also been the central academic figure in the development and implementation of risk-informed methods in structural design practice in the United States for approximately four decades and is internationally recognized as a leading authority on structural load modeling, reliability and risk analysis of engineered facilities, and the technical development and implementation of probability-based codified design standards for building structures.

Responsible for leading a project that involved three other structural engineers in the late 1970s, Dr. Ellingwood and his team did research in practical probability based load criteria for buildings and other structures for a span of two months. The research resulted in the practical probability based loading requirements that have since been incorporated in building codes and standards, making a huge impact on professional structural engineering in the United States and on him personally. Such load combinations are now used across Canada, the United States, and in the Eurocodes.

Some of Dr. Ellingwood's other achievements have most recently including a Outstanding Projects and Leaders Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2017, a College of Engineering Alumni Award for Distinguished Service from the University of Illinois in 2013, and a Senior Research Prize from the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability in 2009.

An elected fellow of the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and a distinguished honorary member of the ASCE, where he has received numerous awards for his work, Dr. Ellingwood is also a longtime member of the National Academy of Engineering, the American Concrete Institute, the American National Standards Institute, and the American Institute of Steel Construction. He has contributed numerous articles in various peer reviewed articles as well, has served as an editor for the "Journal of Structural Safety," and was on the editorial board for "Engineering Structures" and "Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics."

A registered professional engineer in Washington, DC, Dr. Ellingtwood first earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Master of Science in Civil Engineering, and PhD at the University of Illinois. He has lectured and done consultant work for much of his career, and has been affiliated as a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Institute of Steel Construction, the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability, where he chaired the board from 2013 to 2017, and the National Academy of Engineering. Notably, Dr. Ellingwood has been cited in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Bruce R. Ellingwood, PhD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
