Cara M. Houck Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Law

Ms. Houck decided at a very early age to commit herself to making the world a better place.

CHICAGO, IL, December 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cara M. Houck has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Cara Houck is a Senior Partner in Miller Canfield's Chicago office. She was named an Illinois Super Lawyer in Business Litigation from 2012-2016 and was recently nominated as a Leading Lawyer in Illinois. She has also been one of her Firm's Pro Bono Champions since 2011. During her 20-year career, Ms. Houck has tried numerous jury cases, non-jury cases, and arbitrations around the country, not only in state and federal courts but also in private fora. Her litigation experience ranges from toxic tort/wrongful death cases to complex commercial real estate foreclosures and guaranty actions, among other types of business controversies. Before joining Miller Canfield, Ms. Houck was an associate at McGuireWoods in Chicago, where her assignments included defending Fortune 500 companies. Ms. Houck is also a prolific contributor to legal and medical industry journals, and is a sought-after speaker on a wide range of topics related to her practice.

Raised by a single mother and the youngest of five children, Ms. Houck decided at a very early age to commit herself to making the world a better place. Her chosen tool: the law.

Achieving this required long hours and dedication. While working full-time for various Chicago law firms to finance her education, Ms. Houck earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University in 1990 and her J.D. from the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1996. Looking to enhance her ability to handle sophisticated business disputes, she added an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern to her credentials in 2015.

Ms. Houck has not forgotten the dream that steered her toward the law. Of all her career highlights, she is most proud of her work in advising and serving on not-for-profit boards dedicated to helping underprivileged children. Most notably, she is the President of the Board of Directors for the Awassa Children's Project located in Ethiopia. She travels there frequently to aid the Project's mission of educating poor village children, setting them on the path to higher education and realization of their own dreams to improve community and country. She has also served on the Prevent Child Abuse America and Chicago Challenge Boards, and currently serves as a board member for the Chicago Bar Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping those who cannot afford legal services.

Ms. Houck is a member of the American, Illinois and Chicago Bar Associations.
