Focusing in the areas of organic chemistry, heterocyclics and natural products, Dr. Hammer is recognized as a professor emeritus with Georgetown University.

    SANTA FE, NM, February 02, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles F. Hammer, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Focusing in the areas of organic chemistry, heterocyclics and natural products, Dr. Hammer is recognized as a professor emeritus with Georgetown University. Prior to his retirement in 1995, he served as an educator with the university for more than 30 years. Committed to the field of education, he was responsible for establishing a charter school in Santa Fe in 2001. He continues to serve Hoya New Mexico Schools as a director, a position he has held since 1995. He is regarded for his research in chemistry and mechanisms of nitrogen heterocyclics and steroids, bromination-dehydrobromination reactions, structure elucidation of natural products by instrumental methods, complete structure by 2D-nuclear magnetic resonance, isotope ratio kinetics by mass spectrometry, computer software applications to spectrometric analysis, and synthesis of plant growth hormones and antitumor agents.

Throughout his career, he has worked as a visiting scholar with a wide range of institutions, including Nanjing University, the Slovenian National Institute of Chemistry, the USA National Institutes of Health, Kyoto University, and the University of California, Berkeley. He is a founder and former member of the governing council with The Academy for Technology and the Classics in New Mexico, a grades 7-12 charter school, currently ranked the highest charter school in the state.

Dr. Hammer began his career by obtaining a BA from Bowling Green State University in 1955. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where he completed a PhD in organic chemistry in 1959. Early in his career, he worked in the research labs at Proctor & Gamble. He was later called in to active duty with the U.S. Air Force, completing two years of military service before returning to academia. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Society for Applied Spectroscopy, ASTM and Sigma Xi.

Dr. Hammer has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World. He was recently named the recipient of the United States Navy & MWR Bronze Award, as well as the Newsweek Bronze Award. Previously, he received the Award for Creative Invention from the American Chemical Society and Alan Berman Publication Award from NRL. He was named an NIHPD fellow at Brandeis University for work on nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray crystallography of steroids.
