Christian Chaussy, MD, Celebrated for More Than 40 Years of Professional Excellence

Dr. Chaussy received the federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon FRG



    STRASSLACH-DINGHARTING, GERMANY, May 17, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Christian Chaussy, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With more than 40 years of professional experience in health care, Dr. Chaussy became chair of the department of urology at the Klinikum Harlaching, University Associated Hospital of Munich in 1986. He retired from this position in 2010. In addition to his primary role, he has also been a member of the board of directors for the institution's Laser Center since 1997 and its medical co-director since 1998. Prior to joining the hospital, Dr. Chaussy was faculty member, professor and director in the department of surgery division of urology at the Medical Center, University of California, Los Angeles, from 1985 to 1986. He was licensed by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. From 1980 to 1984, he was senior staff member at the Department of Urology University of Munich, having been active staff with the facility since 1975. In addition, Dr. Chaussy served as a consultant with the University of Munich transplant unit from 1977 to 1984, for which he was also active staff member and co-director from 1975 to 1976. Before he joined the transplant unit in 1975 he had worked several months at the department of surgery transplantation unit of the University of Cambridge, UK with Sir Roy York Calne.

He has also worked as a consultant professor of urology with the University of Regensburg, as clinical professor of urology with the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. Dr. Chaussy began his career as a student at the University of Munich, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1975. He has been licensed as a medical doctor by the German government and became Professor of Urology University of Munich in 1981. A member of the German Urological Society, Dr. Chaussy is also affiliated with the American Urological Society, the Brazilian College of Surgeons, the LA County Urological Society, the European Intrarenal Surgery Society and the European Society for Organ Transplantation, the Society of Friends and Sponsors of Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, the Max Planck Society, the Kuratorium for Heimdialyse, the German Society of ShockWaveLithotripsy.

Besides his regular memberships in numerous Medical Societies and International Committees he is honorary member of several National and International Surgical and Urological Societies. Among these are the Honorary Fellowship Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, the Honorary Professorship of the Medical University of Beijing, the Honorary Membership of EULIS and the Honorary membership of the American Urological Association. For 20 years he was President of the German Lithotripsy Society of which he is now Honorary President.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chaussy has received many Awards among which are the "Ritter-von-Frisch" Award of the German Urological Society (DGU), the "Distinguished Contribution Award" of the AUA, the "Lifetime Achievement Award" of the Endourological Society, the "European Science" Award and the "Innovators in Urology" Award of the EAU, the International Lithotripsy Award of Dornier Medical Systems as well as "Gruene Rosette of the European Science Award", he also received the Heinrich-Spohr Award from the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the University of Dusseldorf, he has been honored with the Langenbeck Award from the Germany Surgical Society and a Motion Picture Award from the American Urological Association and the German Urological Society. Dr. Chaussy received the federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the FRG.

In 2009 Chaussy was the Scientific Chairman of the 27th WCE in Munich. 2012 he was President of the Endourological Society.

Dr. Chaussy is most renowned for his work as the practitioner of the first worldwide treatment of a patient with kidney stones with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). In 1996 he started at his department the use and research of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. The author and co-author of more than 500 medical articles and publications, he has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
