Cohen & Jaffe to Award Students $2,250 for College Expenses in Scholarship Competition

The Long Island personal injury law firm announces its 2018 essay contest, allowing college-bound students to share their ideas on distracted driving and traumatic brain injuries.



    LAKE SUCCESS, NY, January 04, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP, is pleased to announce the firm's 2018 Scholarship Program, which provides an opportunity for students entering their first year of college to compete $2,250 in scholarship money through an essay writing contest.

"The attorneys and staff at Cohen & Jaffe understand the value of higher education, and we are committed to helping more young people achieve their goals," said attorney Richard S. Jaffe, one of the firm's named partners. "We also welcome the opportunity afforded by this competition to raise awareness about the critical issue of medical errors, the losses they cause and potential ways to make medical treatment safer."

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Long Island personal injury law firm has held a scholarship competition. This year's essay topics focus distracted driving, traumatic brain injuries. Entrants must submit an original essay totaling at least 500 words, but no more than 750, on one of the following topics:

1) General: Write about a significant situation in your life that has caused you to change your outlook and behavior on life. How did this situation cause you to make a life change? How have you used your experience to help or educate others?

2) Distracted Driving: Distracted Driving remains a significant issue in New York and throughout the United States resulting in numerous car accidents, severe injuries and death. Explain the severity of the issue, the dangers and risks associated with distracted driving, include facts and statistics and laws that have been implemented in order to deal with the issue. Also include personal stories of what you have done to be an advocate and spread awareness on the dangers of texting and driving.

3) Traumatic Brain Injury: It is estimated that 1.7 million traumatic brain injuries occur each year. We understand the devastating effects of head injuries and we're committed to aggressively representing victims injured. Explain to us the impact a TBI has had on your life. Your essay should relate your personal experience, and how you would like to educate others on the invisible dangers of a head injury.

The author of the winning essay will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and the runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship. The firm will award $250 each to three applicants who receive honorable mention.

The firm is already accepting applications, and the deadline for submissions is April 2. Judges will announce 10 finalists on April 27. The public will then have the opportunity to vote on the finalists' submissions between April 30 and May 28. The firm will announce the winners on June 4.
