Commercial Compressor Remanufacturer APM Cool Offers Tips for Oil Pressure Problems

Refrigeration compressor parts distributor, APM Cool, offers tips for oil pressure issues.

ATLANTA, GA, January 13, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- APM Cool, a remanufacturer of refrigeration compressors, provides some helpful insight into common oil pressure problems that occur in HVAC systems. With any compressor, maintaining optimal pressure is a must in order to prevent damage to the valuable, internal parts. The vast majority of new models contain a specialized positive displacement oil pump that lubricates the components of a commercial compressor. Additionally, these pumps work as a fail safe in the event that oil pressure drops below the standard operating threshold. In any event, in no way does this prevent oil problems from occurring, which is why knowing what to look for and what to do if something goes wrong is critical.

Common Oil Problems

- Not enough refrigerant in the lines - If the HVAC system is running low on refrigerant, this in turn will cause less oil to be processed. A lack of lubrication means low pressure, and that can create a lot of problems. If left unattended, premature mechanical breakdown will eventually occur.
- Blockages - Improper maintenance (not sticking to the manufacturer's stated schedule) can lead to buildup of dirt, grime and other debris. If the oil is not allowed to pass, two things are inevitable: there will be too much pressure in one area of the system and too little in another.
- Contaminated oil - Dirty oil is also a common issue, particularly in regards to the pick up tube area in the crankcase. Checking and changing the oil on a regular basis makes this problem easily preventable.

According to David Debuc, Vice President of APM Cool, "Faulty oil pressure is typically not a major cause of concern, and can be usually corrected with minimal work. However, the long-term issues that can result from not addressing the problem early on are a different story. You do not want to have to replace refrigeration compressor parts due to improper maintenance."
