Dr. Bonnie Kelm Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Art

Since 1977, Dr. Kelm has offered her talents and knowledge of the arts as a professor, museum director and entrepreneur

    SANTA BARBARA, CA, August 02, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bonnie Kelm has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With a love of the arts that dates back to her childhood, Dr. Kelm has made a career out of her greatest passion. During her tenure, which began in 1977, she has been an art museum director, appraiser, educator, consultant, and assemblage artist. Dr. Kelm has worked for prominent organizations and institutions, including the University Art Museum at UC Santa Barbara, the Muscarelle Museum of Art at The College of William and Mary, Miami University Art Museum, the Bunte Gallery, Franklin University, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, The Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Ohio Arts Council.

Dr. Kelm worked for 30 years in the museum field as a University Art Museum Director & Associate Professor. She was well known for her groundbreaking exhibitions, museum catalogs, and professional articles. Her most notable projects include "Georgia O'Keeffe in Williamsburg: A Recreation of the Lost 1938 Exhibition," "Into the Mainstream: Contemporary Folk, Outsider and Naive Art," "La Conchita: Reclaiming Its Past" and "Out of Site: the Marsha Glazer Collection."

A distinguished artist and scholar, Dr. Kelm has been recognized for her professional excellence on a global scale. She was selected for inclusion into Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who of American Women. In addition, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowship, Ford Foundation Grant, a Southeast Museums Conference Curators Award, The Marantz Award for Distinguished Alumni Accomplishments from Ohio State University, a YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, National Endowment for the Arts recognition (NEA) for the Advancement of Art Education and the Critics Choice Award from The Foundation for the Community of Artists, NY, among other awards and recognitions. To prepare for a career in the arts, Dr. Kelm earned a Bachelor of Science in art education from SUNY Buffalo State in 1968, a Master of Arts in history from Bowling Green State University in 1975, and a Ph.D. in arts administration from Ohio State University in 1987. To continually develop her skills and impact on her industry she became certified in Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice from New York University and became involved with a number of industry organizations. She was a founding member of the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, served as President of the Board of Artreach, Board Member of Women Beyond Borders, a member of the advocacy task force for the American Alliance of Museums, Board member of the International Committee of AAM and board member for the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries.

It was when Dr. Kelm had to retire from the museum on disability due to Lupus and then found herself battling 4th stage bone lymphoma with a 50% chance of survival that she started making jewelry and art. It was her outlet. In 2011 she finally beat the cancer and had a new jewelry design business. Bellakaye Designs makes one-of-a-kind creations and she also makes mixed media and photographic works that have been included in 14 regional juried exhibitions since 2010.
