EdisonLearning's Alternative High Schools in Florida Earn Highest Accountability Ratings

Schools Show Significant Academic Improvement

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, August 08, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Six alternative high schools located in Broward, Dade and Orange Counties; under the operation of international education service provider EdisonLearning, have improved to the point that five of the six have earned the highest rating of "Commendable" under Florida's School Accountability System.

Prior to EdisonLearning assuming academic and operational management of the schools in 2016, two of the schools were rated in the mid-range ranking of "maintaining", and four were rated in the lowest ranking of "unsatisfactory."

Three of the four schools previously rated "unsatisfactory", are now rated in the highest "Commendable" category.

For the recently concluded school year: Andrews High School in Pompano Beach, Chambers High School in Homestead, Main Street High School in Kissimmee, Mavericks High School – Palm Springs in Palm Springs, and Sunrise High School in Ft. Lauderdale all received the highest rating of "Commendable" by the Florida Department of Education.

C.G. Bethel High School in Miami has improved from the lowest rating to the mid-range "maintaining" category.

"We are honored to take on the task of helping young people faced with challenging socio-economic conditions complete their education and earn their high school diplomas," said Thom Jackson, EdisonLearning's President and CEO.

"The improvement achieved by each of these schools is due in no small part to the determination of the students to learn, and the dedication of the passionate professional educators who have helped to guide them towards a better future," Jackson said.

School improvement ratings are part of Florida's school accountability system, which originated with the Florida Legislature's passage of Assistance Plus (A+) legislation in 1999; and are calculated for alternative schools that choose to receive a school improvement rating in lieu of a school grade. Based on statutory criteria, alternative schools are identified by the Florida Department of Education with input from Florida's school districts.

EdisonLearning, an international educational services provider and the nation's largest minority-owned company of its kind, has been the foremost innovator in American public education for a generation.
