Gail Flanagan Walker is a nursing leader with a proven ability to lead change by engaging staff teams to design, focus, and implement transitions. She is a recognized leader in Maternal Child Health. She also initiated, led, or supported multiple unit/department startups and reorganizations, including during hospital mergers. Mrs. Walker has a proven ability to influence senior leadership, legislative bodies, and community organizations by providing evidence-based information for organizational design, policy and legislation. She is a strong advocate for patient safety and satisfaction.

Currently, Mrs. Walker serves as Clinical Project Manager at UMMC-Health Alliance in Leominster, MA. Here, she facilitates the transition to EPIC EMR while continuing to participate in the build of EPIC, particularly the Stork module, and teach in the New Graduate RN Program. From October 2014 to December 2016, she served as Director of Women Infants & Children at the hospital, oversaw cross training of multiple staff from maternal newborn unit to labor & delivery, and supported the unit-based Nurse Practice Council, among other duties. The previous year, Mrs. Walker served as Interim Manager of The Birthing Center, where she maintained the Chair of the Massachusetts Perinatal Team, rewrote unit competencies, led the successful Joint Commission Survey, and undertook the management of the combination of the Adult/Pedi unit.

Mrs. Walker served as Interim Manager of the Family Birth Center at Northwestern Medical Center in St Albans, VT, in 2013, Interim Manager of the Women & Newborn Care Unit at South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI, in 2012-2013, Director of Maternal Child Health/Education/IV Services at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, MA from 2002 to 2011, and Director, Maternal Child Health at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, MA, from 1999 to 2002.

From 1997 to 1999, Mrs. Walker was Manager of the Center for Women and Infants at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA, where she increased patient safety as well as staff and physician satisfaction by working with senior leadership to reevaluate the model of care in the new facility based on evidence and experience.

From 1986 to 1997, Mrs. Walker worked for Optima Health in Manchester, NH, first as Director of Maternal Child Health and Intravenous Therapy (1986-1995) and then as Program Director of Women's and Children's Health (1995-1997). She also has experience as a staff nurse and held management roles in the NICU and pediatrics. She has taught in schools of nursing and for staff development departments in New York, Maine, Wisconsin and Massachusetts.

Mrs. Walker attended Mount Sinai Hospital to receive Registered Nurse training. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of New Hampshire. A member of Sigma Theta Tau and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nursing, Mrs. Walker is the recipient of the "I Make It Happen" Award from Catholic Medical Center in 1990, four Champions of Excellence Awards from UMassMemorial-Health Alliance Hospital in 2015-2016, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for contributions to maternal child health care in Massachusetts in 2011.

Mrs. Walker's accomplishments have been proudly recognized in Who's Who in American Women, Who's Who in American Nursing and Who's Who in Women Executives. Married to Bruce Lee Walker since 1972, with whom she has had two children, Mrs. Walker enjoys reading, cross-stitching, and skating.
