Georgia State University Students Encouraged to Text in Class

Entercation's New text-to-Screen Platform called Textquest lets students text while in class.

ATLANTA, GA, April 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Entercation, a mobile entertainment technology company, announced today that it has partnered with Georgia State University to create a breakthrough technology using text to screen for live interaction in university classrooms, a first in the college classroom that allows students to turn on their cell phones in class. The new Text Question System is a text-to-screen platform that gives shy students and foreign exchange students a way to interact with professors in a large class without intimidation or language barriers. There is also a special point system which helps students to raise their grades by participating with their mobile phones.

"Georgia State University came to us with a problem to solve, it's an absolute natural progression for us at Entercation, we have been doing a text to screen platform for pro and college sports programs for over 5 years and felt it was easily adaptable for a learning curriculum, we believe it will be a $25 million dollar a year business for us," said JB Vick, President of Entercation.

"It is easy to use, it's easily adopted by technology shy professors and it's very inexpensive to implement," added Vick.

"It's called TQS or Text Question System, and Georgia State is piloting the technology on campus," said David McDonald, director of emerging technologies in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State. "Think of the shy student who feels lost in a classroom of 200. This allows them to anonymously ask questions using technology they already know and use and they get credit for doing so."

Here's why the Text Question System solves the problem in the classroom:

1. Foreign exchange students have a voice when they are having problems speaking our language
2. It's perfect for large classrooms and auditorium size classrooms
3. Students are rewarded for using their cell phones when otherwise are restricted in using them in this environment
4. Students pile up points that go towards their final grade by participating
5. Texting is the communication language of today's student

"It's a huge win/win for everyone involved, from student to professor alike. Kids are using text messaging as a way to communicate and this is just a natural fit for this mobile education platform. There are many mobile applications that have tried this in the past---but faculty members would not adopt it because it was too hard and complicated. It's cool to see phones turned on in the classroom where just a few weeks ago they were prohibited in the classroom," said Gabriel German, founder of Orion Entertainment Systems, a wireless GPS manufacturer.
