Dr. Mueller has enjoyed an extraordinary career that included working in accounting and academia, most recently serving as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board between 1996 and 2001. Entering the workforce as a staff accountant with FMC Corporation in San Jose, CA, in 1957, Dr. Mueller accepted a faculty position in the department of accounting at the University of Washington in Seattle three years later, where he remained until 1996. A professor emeritus of accounting, during his tenure he served as the Hughes M. Blake professor of international business management and as the Julius A. Roller professor of accounting. He also served as the acting dean of the business school, senior associate dean for five years, executive director of the Center for International Business Education and Research, chair of the department of accounting and director of the master of professional accounting program.

A certified public accountant and expert in international accounting, financial reporting of foreign companies listed on the U.S. exchanges, and large U.S.-based multinational companies reporting to foreign jurisdictions, Dr. Mueller first acquired an Associate of Arts at the College of Sequoias, followed by a Bachelor of Science with honors, Master of Business Administration, and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California at Berkeley. He has since lectured and served as a visiting professor at several universities, conferences and management programs in the United States and abroad, has consulted variously on international accounting projects, and consulted for several years on international tax matters for the U.S. Treasury Department. Dr. Mueller is an elected fellow of the Academy of International Business, longstanding member and former president of the American Accounting Association and the Washington Society of CPAs, and past chairman of the board of trustees of the Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue, WA, and the Accounting Education Change Commission. Currently working on a family biographical book, Dr. Mueller previously co-authored and co-edited 19 books, contributed chapters to several other books, and published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals in his areas of expertise. In 2009 a professional biographical book was written by Professor Dale Flesher about Professor Mueller and his career titled "Gerhard G. Mueller: Father of International Accounting Education" (copyrighted in 2010).

Dr. Mueller holds an honorary doctorate in economics from the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration in Finland and an honorary Doctor of Laws from Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan. He also received several Distinguished Teaching and Outstanding Educator Awards from the University of Washington and several professional societies. Born in Germany, Dr. Mueller relocated to the United States at the age of 22. He has been highlighted in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Finance and Business.
