International Conference in New Hampshire to Create Impartial Public Policy Forum, Avoid Rhetoric

At The Portsmouth Conference on October 18 and 19, 2018 in Portsmouth, NH, a panel of leading international thinkers will discuss policy consequences related to climate.

"In this global marketplace, there is less and less room for rhetoric, which makes the purpose of this conference quite relevant."

PORTSMOUTH, NH, July 18, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In today's divisive political atmosphere, it is increasingly difficult for leaders and decision-makers to discuss important issues, especially as they relate to public policies.

At The Portsmouth Conference on October 18 and 19, 2018 in Portsmouth, NH, a panel of leading international thinkers will discuss policy consequences related to climate. According to organizers, the purpose of the conference is to avoid the science of climate today, a subject fraught with contention, and to instead discuss policies and initiatives associated with climate.

"There are policy changes related to climate that are already happening whether or not climate change is believed to be caused by human activities," said Dr. Geoff Weiss, Emeritus Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the University of Virginia Health System.

Weiss is one of five individuals who serve on the conference's board of directors.

"The reality is things are happening at a policy level irrespective of government views," he added. "Organizations and entire industries are developing their own policies and acting on them, which impacts the global economy...This conference will provide an impartial forum to discuss what is happening as well as the payoffs and trade-offs that result from these changes."

The Portsmouth Conference in Portsmouth, NH is the first of what has been conceived as a biennial event, each of which will consider a different major public policy issue and its policy consequences. The format and purpose of each conference will reflect host Citizens Count NH's guiding words: Learn, Discuss, Engage.

"These conferences will provide authoritative information on the chosen topic, networking opportunities for leaders in their respective fields and help position Citizens Count NH as an important public resource for nonpartisan discussions," said Weiss. "In this global marketplace, there is less and less room for rhetoric, which makes the purpose of this conference quite relevant."

The Portsmouth Conference will take place at the historic Wentworth by the Sea Hotel & Spa, which hosted the Portsmouth Peace Treaty participants in 1905. The treaty earned President Theodore Roosevelt the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize.
