Peden Jr. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Peden has practiced law with the firm now known as Stennett, Wilkinson & Peden, a professional association, since 1970. He concentrates his practice in the fields of administrative law, local government law, real estate law, and zoning and land use law. His legal victories in zoning matters have promoted the economic development of the State of Mississippi. The legacy firm now known as Stennett, Wilkinson & Peden was founded by E.W. Stennett on Capitol Street in Jackson, Mississippi in 1927. Mr. Peden joined in 1970 just after earning a JD, becoming a partner only three years later. The firm later relocated to Ridgeland, Mississippi in 2005, and still serves the Jackson Metropolitan Area.

Mr. Peden earned a BA, summa cum laude, in history, political science, and Latin from the University of Mississippi in 1966. The United States government awarded him a Fulbright Scholarship for post-graduate study of British Government and Politics at the University of Bristol in England during 1966-1967. Mr. Peden studied law at the University of Mississippi School of Law as a recipient of a Ford Foundation Law Scholarship, earning a JD in 1970. Early in his career, while practicing law, Mr. Peden served on the staff of Lieutenant Governor William F. Winter as an officer of the Mississippi State Senate.

Mr. Peden joined the Mississippi Air National Guard in 1968, served as Staff Judge Advocate for the 172nd Airlift Wing in Jackson from 1974 until 1988, and served as Staff Judge Advocate at Mississippi Air National Guard State Headquarters from 1988 until his military retirement in 1999. As an Air National Guard officer, he graduated from the Air War College, the senior professional military education school of the United States Air Force. In 1991, he was named the Outstanding Air National Guard Judge Advocate in the United States. He also served on several occasions as an adjunct faculty member at the Air Force Judge Advocate General School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Upon his military retirement in 1999, he was promoted from Colonel to Brigadier General, and he was awarded a Legion of Merit at the same time. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Mississippi, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U. S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi.

Mr. Peden entered the profession of law to serve the public, state, and nation, and has continued to do so outside of the armed forces. He is a member of numerous legal, military, and honors societies, being a Life Member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association, the Air Force Association, the National Guard Association of the U.S., the National Guard Association of Mississippi and the Military Officers Association of America. Furthermore, Mr. Peden is affiliated with the English-Speaking Union, the Supreme Court Historical Society, the National World War II Museum, the Civil War Trust, the Academy of Political Science, the U.S. Naval Institute, and the Society for American Baseball Research.

In addition to the distinguished affiliations already mentioned, Mr. Peden is a newly elected fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a fellow of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association, the Young Lawyers Division of the Mississippi Bar, and the Mississippi Bar Foundation. Mr. Peden teaches land use controls as an adjunct professor at the Mississippi College School of Law. He has served as a judge for the Mississippi Court of Military Appeals since 2004, and as a benefactor for the Beta Theta Pi Foundation in the endowment of a development fund for Beta Beta chapter members at the University of Mississippi. In honor of the law firm he has served for many years, he recently endowed the Stennett, Wilkinson & Peden Scholarship in Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law. Mr. Peden served as president of the Young Lawyers Division of the Mississippi Bar, as chairman of the Mississippi Law Institute, as co-president of the Millsaps Arts & Lecture Series, and as a charter member of the Governor's Judicial Nominating Committee.

Mr. Peden has been awarded a 2017 Mississippi Distinguished Civilian Service Medal from the state of Mississippi, which was presented with a certificate signed by the governor and the adjutant general of the state. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America in the fields of land use and zoning every year since 2008.
