Dr. Peckol has served more than 45 years in the field of engineering and is recognized for his professorship and work in the development of embedded systems. He currently holds the title of principal lecturer in the department of electrical engineering at the University of Washington, a position he has held for 25 years. There, he lectures on real time embedded system design, computer architecture, digital logic design and elementary circuit design. He also acts as the president of Oxford Consulting, which he founded in 1987. He previously served the John Fluke Manufacturing Company as a senior staff engineer in the Manufacturing Research and Design Business Unit from 1986 to 1993, and as senior engineer in the Automated Systems Business Unit from 1983 to 1986, and as senior engineer in the Industrial Products Business Unity from 1972 to 1983. Early in his career, he worked as an engineer with the Boeing Company and the RCA Corporation and acted as a consultant with GE, Raytheon, and Ling-Temco-Vought.

Dr. Peckol has applied his expertise in a variety of additional capacities throughout his career. He served in academia in a number of positions, acting as a visiting professor in the department of electrical engineering at Danang Technical University in Vietnam in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, as senior lecturer/associate professor in the department of electrical engineering at the Aberdeen University in Scotland, as an associate professor in the department of engineering and computer science at the Ecole Polytechnique (now known as the University of Nantes) in Nantes, France, and as a lecturer at Shoreline Community College. He is also a member of the computer science embedded systems, and electrical engineering curriculum advisory board of the University of Washington Professional and Continuing Education, and he has presented and lectured at a number of international conferences and university programs.

Dr. Peckol graduated from the University of Washington with a Ph.D. in electrical engineering in 1985, and a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1975. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in engineering from the Case Institute of Technology (now known as Case Western Reserve). Dr. Peckol is a member of IEEE, the Association of Computing Machinery, Tau Beta Pi, and a former member of the American Association of Artificial Intelligence. He holds multiple patents for his developments in virtual machine programming systems. He has also contributed numerous articles to professional journals and is the author of "Embedded Systems, A Contemporary Design Tool," published in 2008; Dr. Peckol is currently working on the second edition of the book. His proudest career accomplishments involved his work on some of the first weather satellites and helping to achieve the first soft landing on Mars. However, his work as a teacher was the most rewarding and fulfilling aspect of his career.
