Jayanta Chatterjee Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dean Emeritus and Professor Emeritus of Architecture and Planning at the University of Cincinnati (UC), Mr. Chatterjee began working at the university as an assistant professor in 1967. By 1977 he was promoted as a Professor. After serving as the Director of the School of Planning between 1977 and 1982, He was appointed as the Dean of the college of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning by the Board of Trustees in 1982. He served in that capacity till 2001.

Dean Chatterjee's leadership over the two decades led to the development of a process, whereby many of world's leading architects were commissioned to design major buildings for University of Cincinnati. He has been recognized numerous times for his work, such as, with a Sachs Fund Award for outstanding contribution to the cultural life of the region, a Distinguished Alumnus Award (Gold Medal) from the Indian Institute of Technology in 2013, a Martin Meyerson Award for distinguished Leadership in Higher Education in 2009, a Contemporary Art Center (Cincinnati) Visionary Award in 2008, a Thomas Jefferson Award from the American Institute of Architects in 2000 for contribution to Public Architecture, a Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (Award renamed after him) in 1998, a "Apple Award" from the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati for his Architectural influences on the region in 1996, and a Distinguished Alumnus Award the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 1n 1996.

He co-authored chapters in a book "Partnership Planning" in 1982, a consequent of consulting work with the City of Cincinnati, and a book "Rebuilding American Cities" in 1983 as a part of his contribution as an Urban Scholar for the Cities Recovery Program at Cleveland State University, and wrote an introduction to the book "Breaking the Boundaries" in 1989. He founded and co-edited the "Journal of Planning, Education and Research" from 1981 to 1986. An elected fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners and a founding member of the American Planning Association, he is a past President of the Association of Collegiate School Planning and a Founding Member of the Planning Accreditation Board.

He had served on numerous community boards such as the Urban Design Review Board, Contemporary Arts Center Board, Seasongood Foundation for Good Government (Past President), The architectural Foundation of Cincinnati (Past President), The Arts Consortium of Cincinnati, Better Housing League, and The Harvard Club of Cincinnati. He also served as a consultant in planning and Urban Design in the Middle East, China, India, and Brazil among other countries.

Married to Janet Ley Smith since 1968 with two children, Dean Chatterjee enjoys traveling, drawing painting, photography and writing. Notably, Mr. Chatterjee has been listed in countless editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
