WONJU, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, October 20, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jin Yong Hong has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Hong is a young, talented doctor in the South Korean field of neurological medicine, currently serving as an assistant professor with Yonsei University. He has been recognized in both academic and professional circles, and is currently working toward a PhD from Yonsei University in the pursuit of further research in the field of neurological health. Though the brain is a mysterious and challenging organ, Dr. Hong is undaunted by its complexities, and tirelessly documents efforts relating to Parkinson's disease, meningitis, encephalitis, Segawa disease, and other locally occurring conditions.

After earning a doctorate from Yonsei University College of Medicine, Dr. Hong continued to delve into neurology at the Severance Hospital affiliated with Yonsei. He was recognized for his student work with an Academic Award for Highest Achievement by Yonsei University, and was further honored with a fellowship from the Korean Movement Disorder Society.

Dr. Hong has continued to serve with Yonsei University's faculty, and intends to pursue research by earning a PhD in lieu of clinical practice. He has already documented a slew of articles on Parkinson's disease, and in 2014, he notably tied presynaptic dopamine depletion to the development of levodopa-induced dyskinesia in de novo Parkinson's patients. His major interest is in the early stage of cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease; he has carried out serial researches for the characteristics and importance of this issue since 2012. Dr. Hong is a prolific supporter of the Korean Neurological Association, the Korean Movement Disorder Society, and the Korean Dementia Association.

Dr. Hong has been featured in such journals as Parkinsonism Related Disorders, the American Journal of Neuroradiology, and the European Journal of Neurology. In addition to Parkinson's, he has documented studies on the blood brain barrier's role in multiple system atrophy, the role of herpes and tuberculosis on epilepsy, and the screening requirements to identify cognitive impairment in patients with lower education. The latter has been a topic of some concern, and in 2016, Dr. Hong co-authored a study on whether education modifies motor compensation in Parkinson's disease. He has also conducted research on the genetic profile of his native Korea, including the genes responsible for neurodegeneration. When not in the laboratory, Dr. Hong can find comfort in a wife, a son, and a daughter, for whom his advances in medicine will prove invaluable in later years.
