EAST LANSING, MI, September 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Jiquan Chen a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Chen celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Chen teaches as a professor of landscape ecology in the department of geography of Michigan State University, specializing in coupled human and natural systems, environmental instrumentation, image processing, and climate change science. He is a celebrated international scientist in the field and the founder of the US-China Carbon Consortium. Dr. Chen has conducted research with institutions in three countries, and is celebrated for his expertise in community ecology, forest fragmentation, edge effects, riparian zones, and other environmental issues.

Born in Xiaoyi, China, in 1962, Dr. Chen was selected to attend the only multi-ethnic university in northern China, the Inner Mongolia University in Hohhot. He wanted to study astrology but was only offered ecology, and made the most of his situation by earning a Master's degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. Dr Chen earned a doctorate there in 1991, and continued to conduct postdoctoral work with Dr. Franklin on Washington area forests, where three conifer species of trees faced elevated mortality from various factors. Like many other scientists, his current work has to do with human impact on climate change, specifically human activity on the Mongolian Plateau and the development of bioenergy at the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center.

Dr. Chen has taught with Michigan Tech University and the University of Toledo, joining Michigan State in 2014. He was named 1999 Bullard Fellow by Harvard University, and maintains fellowship with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Ecological Society of America. In 2004, Dr. Chen was named a foreign expert by the Japanese Forest Research Institute, and in 2003, he assisted the Korean Academy of Forest Research. Dr. Chen has served as an editor for a number of ecological texts, and is a member of the American Geophysical Union, the Sino-Eco Association, the Society for Conservation Biology, the Ecological Society of America, and the nonprofit International Union of Forest Research.

For his achievements in ecology, Dr. Chen was selected for inclusion in the 2009 and 2008 volumes of Who's Who in America, as well as the 2009 volume of Who's Who in the World. He is the proud parent of Sylvia and Erika Sequoia with his wife, Xiang Jiang. Dr. Chen enjoys the martial art of tai chi and Buddhist meditation.
