Prior to pursuing a medical career, Dr. Franco held a strong interest in teaching and critical care. She attended the University of Toledo, where she received an MD in 1975. During this time, Dr. Franco was encouraged by her parents and teachers to reach as high as she could by finding opportunities and seizing them. Since then, she has been board certified in psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. Her previous professional roles include serving as the director of residency training and director of student training in psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic.
A respected voice in the medical community, Dr. Franco was elected to the board of governors and board of trustees with the Cleveland Clinic. In an effort to remain active and engaged in the field of medical education, she maintains involvement with numerous education committees, as well as the American College of Psychiatrists and Community Health Initiative. Dr. Franco is a recognized fellow of the American College of Physicians, Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and American Psychiatric Association.
