GOLDEN, CO, February 19, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Kent J. Voorhees, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Voorhees celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Chemistry has always come easy to Dr. Voorhees. Born in Utah in 1943, he grew up interested in and learning about the field. Thus, it is no wonder why he chose to continue his studies at Utah State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1965, a Master of Science in 1968, and a PhD in 1970. Dr. Voorhees then became a postdoctoral fellow at Michigan State University for one year before joining the staff of the University of Utah as a chemistry instructor, assistant research professor, associate research professor and manager of the Analytical Chemistry Section of the Flammability Research Center. In 1979, he became an assistant professor at the Colorado School of Mines, and in 1984, he became professor with the institution. Dr. Voorhees also served the school as the chairman of the Material Science Program Steering Committee. He remains there to this day as a research professor in the department of chemistry and geochemistry and as an emeritus university professor emeritus.

Aside from his current posts in academia, Dr. Voorhees contributes as the editor of the "Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis," the past chair of the governing Board of Governors of the Green Chemistry Institute through the American Chemical Society. He has consulted in the field since 1979. Looking to the future, he intends to focus on research interests in rapid bacterial identification and biofuels characterization and advance the field further.

Previously, Dr Voorhees was a research scientist with the Eyring Research Institute, a member of the scientific advisory board for Colorado Health Care, and the founder and chief scientific officer of MicroPhage, Inc. One of the highlights of his career was developing methods of bacterial identification by mass spectrometry. He shared his findings by co-authoring publications, including "Modeling Bacteriophage Amplification with Yersinia pestis and Bacteriophage A1122 for use as an in-vitro Diagnostic" for the Journal of Mass Spectrometry, and contributing to publications such as "Theory and Application of Dissociative Electron Capture in Molecular Identification" for the Journal of Physical Chemistry. In total, he was responsible for more than 150 articles in professional journals.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Voorhees was honored as Inventor of the Year by the Colorado School of Mines in 2016, earned the Outstanding Faculty Member award from the Board of Trustees of the Colorado School of Mines in 2013, the Richard A. Glenn Award from the American Chemical Society in 2009, and the R&D 100 Award in 2009 and 2000. He also received the Service Award and the Research Award from the Colorado Section of the American Chemical Society, the Dean's Excellence Award from the Colorado School of Mines and the Distinguished Chemistry Alumni Award from Utah State University. His achievements have been highlighted in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. When Dr. Voorhees has spare time, he enjoys golf, fishing, boating, woodworking, and working on his ranch.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Kent J. Voorhees, PhD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
