Dr. Valanis spent more than 20 years teaching at several different universities across the country. He was a professor at Iowa State University early on in the mid-1960s, then served as a professor and materials division chairman at the University of Iowa for 10 years, and then was a professor and dean of engineering at the University of Cincinnati for another eight years. In 1986, he also served as president of Endochronics Inc., in Vancouver, WA, where he since became owner in 1996. He also began working at the University of Portland as a research professor in 1998, and continues to conduct research in his field of expertise to this day.

For 25 years, Dr. Valanis did consultant work for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA. He also consulted for S-Cubed in La Jolla, CA, for 15 years, and served on the board of directors for the University of Crete between 1978 and 1986. His extensive studies led to him authoring and editing the book "Constitutive Equations" in 1976 and authoring the book "Irreversible Thermodynamics" in 1977, in addition to many articles in professional and academic journals. Dr. Valanis also earned several research grants, including one from the AF Office of Scientific Research in 1969, the National Science Foundation in 1978, the Army Research Office in 1984, and the Waterways Experiment Station in 1992.

An elected fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, honorary member of the Hellenic Society of Rheology, and member of the Society of Engineering Science and the Mathematics Association of America, Dr. Valanis has been included in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World several times. Born in Lefkara, Larnaca, Cyprus, he now resides in Melbourne, FL, and is married to Barbara G. Geesey. He has three adult children from a previous marriage.
