Margery Al-Chalabi Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Supported by 55 years of experience in her field, Ms. Al-Chalabi currently works as the president of an eponymous economic forecasting and development company, ACG: The al Chalabi Group, Ltd. Earlier in her career, she served as an architect and planner for the Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Doxiadis Associates in Athens, Greece. Over the years, she lent her expertise to a number of planning and executive roles for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Chicago, the Chicago Department of Urban Renewal, Bauer Engineering, Real Estates Research Corporation, and Laventhol & Horwath. Immediately before starting her own firm in 1983 with her partner and husband Suhail al Chalabi, she served in the Chicago Mayor's Office as assistant director of city development, and wrote a comprehensive plan for the city in 1992.

As the first child in both maternal and parternal sides of her family to attend college, Ms. Al-Chalabi is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University and Athens Technological Institute, holding a Bachelor of Architecture, and a Master of Science respectively. In order to remain engaged and active in her professional circles, she has affiliated herself with the Urban Land Institute, the World Society for Ekistics, and the National Trust for Historical Prevention. More recently, she joined the Society for Architectural Historians and the Chicago Archaeological Society.

Throughout her career, she has lent her expertise to a number of creative works regarding plans on urban and economic development, comprehensive development plans for the cities of Chicago, Charlotte, and Cincinnatti, as well as transportation plans for rails, bridges, toll roads and airports using numerous forecasting models and methodologies. One of her first successes with ACG was the purchase, rehabilitation and revival of the venerable Chicago Theater, saved from a slated demolition in 1983.

Beyond her status as a respected and hard-working figure in her industry, she has been awarded many times for her work in the field and is a member of the honorary economics society Lambda Alpha. In addition to earning numerous rehabilitation and restoration awards between 1985 and 1995, Ms. Al-Chalabi has been featured in many volumes of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. She currently serves as a board member of The Cliff Dwellers of Chicago, and is the immediate former president of the World Society of Ekistics, a worldwide society of architects and planners headquartered in Athens, Greece. She is also a longtime subscriber to the arts of Chicago, including The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Joffrey Ballet, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and numerous local theater companies.
