Payam Heydari, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

A full professor in the department of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) since 2010, Dr. Heydari has worked tirelessly since earning his first appointment in 2001. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in electronics and Master of Science in electrical engineering at Sharif University of Technology, followed by a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the University of Southern California, he entered UCI as an assistant professor. He has also since become the director of The Nanoscale Communication IC (NCIC) Labs at UCI, which conducts research on silicon-based RF/millimeter-wave/terahertz integrated circuits design for imaging, sensing, and wireless communications, as well as CMOS ultra-low power integrated circuits for brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. In 2017, Dr. Heydari taught two graduate level courses, Advanced Analog IC Design II and RFIC Design, and one undergraduate course, Analog and Communications IC Design.

Throughout his career, Dr. Heydari has served as an expert witness and consultant for several organizations and as a principal investigator of several large projects on numerous occasions. In 2017, Dr. Heydari was the lead principal investigator of an $8 million research award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop a brain-computer interface that can restore walking ability and sensation in individuals with spinal cord injury. This initiative represented the largest NSF award received by faculty researchers in the UCI engineering and medicine schools.

He currently holds 11 U.S patents. He has authored and co-authored over 150 peer reviewed journal articles and conference papers, is the co-author of two books, has contributed chapters to three books by other authors, and has been a Guest Editor and Associate Editor for several Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) journal publications. His journey in education also led to giving several keynote speeches, serving as an invited Distinguished Speaker and as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer. Dr. Heydari is an IEEE Fellow for his pioneering contributions to silicon-based millimeter-wave integrated circuits and systems. He has been a member of the technical program committee of flagship conferences in the solid-state circuits including IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) and IEEE Custom Integrated Circuits Conference (CICC).

Dr. Heydari has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Guillemin-Cauer and Darlington Awards, an NSF CAREER Award, a Faculty of the Year Award from the UCI engineering student council in 2010, and Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from the Orange County Engineering Council, He was the recipient of several research and paper awards and was named One of 10 Outstanding Innovators by the UC Irvine Office of Technology Alliances, and has made several media appearances. Married for 3 years to his wife Atusa Naseri Heydari, Dr. Heydari has been cited in Who's Who in America and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders.
