Pradeep K. Garg, Ph.D. Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Joining the Center for Molecular Imaging and Therapy (CMIT) as executive director in 2013, Dr. Garg is a former professor of radiological sciences at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC, a former faculty member at Duke University Medical Center between the years of 1987 and 1995, and a former faculty member in the Department of Radiology at the Yale University Medical Center, where he later became Director of the Yale University PET Center. His extensive history includes expertise in imagining technology, with special emphasis on PET imaging, as well as the publication of dozens of peer-reviewed papers and several chapters to books for other authors relating to his field of expertise.

CMIT is a research organization devoted to developing novel radiopharmaceuticals that can lead to improved diagnosis and therapy for a wide range of diseases. CMIT actively performs radiopharmaceutical development, preclinical research, translational research, as well as clinical imaging, and works with various collaborators, including physicians, researchers, scientists, academic institutions, and pharmaceutical companies to develop, test, validate, and translate innovative new technologies and ideas.

As executive director of the Center for the past four years, which incorporates the Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana's (BRF) PET Imaging Center and Southern Isotopes into a single entity with a mission of advancing the BRF research program, Dr. Garg has conducted numerous studies alongside his research team. Recently, he published a study about adult smoking in the United States, how it has decreased substantial since the hallmark 1964 U.S. Surgeon General's report, and why 40 million Americans still smoke regularly with approximately 400,000 among them dying each year due to illness directly associated with smoking. The recently published study in the Proceeding of National Academy of Science and the Journal of Nuclear Medicine is part of a larger body of work Dr. Garg has led in the study of addiction. He also recently published a study where he and his team focused on developing a novel radiopharmaceutical that shows promise in helping the medical community more effectively diagnose melanoma.

Dr. Garg has spent time as a lead researcher and a manager for the infrastructure in Radiopharmaceutical Production, Basic Science research, Clinical Imaging, and Clinical Trials, in Shreveport, LA. He has served on numerous committees at his previous institutions and has also served on multiple national and international committees. He is a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the Society of Radiopharmaceutical Science, the American Chemical Society, and the American Association for Cancer Research. Furthermore, he has served in leadership positions in many of those organizations. Dr. Garg holds a Ph.D. from Lucknow University in India since 1982.
